Summary of role
Responsible for implementing field based quality control systems and providing support to all Care Workers within a defined area.


Principal responsibilities

  • To carry out Individual Needs Assessments for existing and potential clients
  • To conduct risk assessments as part of the Individual Needs Assessment and update these as required as part of the individual's risk management
  • To carry out introductory visits every time a care worker visits a client for the first time

To ensure all client visits are always covered - a field supervisor will be expected to help cover and/ or go out to undertake this visit during office hours if office staff are unable to cover the visit

  • To be oncall
- this normally is one week a month but this may vary depending on staffing capacity

  • To liaise closely with care coordinators regarding recruitment, permanent allocation of care workers and the writing of care plans
  • To identify suitable care workers to cover for any absences, this may be due to sickness or holiday
  • To allocate suitable alternative care workers when an existing care worker notifies that they are unable to attend a call
  • To undertake all care worker spot checks and supervisions all completed paperwork to be seen and signed off by the registered manager before filing away
  • To facilitate the practical induction of all new care workers
  • To provide and facilitate infield training as and when appropriate
  • To identify any additional training needs of care workers and report accordingly.
  • To conduct client reviews and respond to Individual Client Review Forms completed by care workers as soon as possible
  • To urgently report any changes in a care worker's or client's schedule to the care coordinator
  • To monitor, supervise and mentor all care workers in the field
  • To provide support to all care workers in the field
  • To monitor all clients for service and care worker satisfaction
  • To ensure accuracy and completeness of all documentation held in clients' homes
  • To encourage and identify opportunities for care workers continuing professional development.
  • To ensure that all written reports and administration is up to date
  • Being fully conversant with Care Planner and the PASS system and actively monitoring and managing the logging in and out of care workers
  • To ensure that every new client is fully entered unto the PASS system with the breakdown of their tasks, outcomes and medication on file
  • To be fully responsible for the management of client and office home files and folders ensuring that all the requisite paperwork is present in the files / folders
  • To actively partake in securing new clients by contributing to high quality standard of service delivery
  • To maintain close liaison with both the Registered/Care Manager and care coordinators


Field Care Supervisors are responsible for the efficient running of their own specific, defined areas and should vary their hours of work in order to effectively monitor and support all care workers and clients.


Field Care Supervisors should spend approximately 75% of their working week in the field with the remaining 25% being spent in the office in order to complete the necessary administrative duties.
