DV CLEARED, INSIDE IR35, DATA MIGRATION ENGINEER, SQL

My client, a leader in the public sector, is seeking a DV cleared Database Migration Engineer to work from their London, Manchester or Birmingham sites on a rolling 6 month contract basis.


The requirement is for an experienced and DV security-cleared Database Migration Engineer to work on a national data migration project.

The role requires an awareness of the unique challenges of working within a secure domain.

The project is already in progress and designs, processes and scripts are in place.
The role requires the migration engineer to assist in the implementation of migrations across a number of regions.


Due to the security aspects of this role it will be primarily office based, working from one of the London, Manchester or Birmingham sites.

Regular travel to sites across the UK will also be required as part of the national migration, for which any expenseswill be reimbursed.


Key Tasks

  • Work with the project manager, suppliers, regional IT leads and database administrators to migrate legacy data from multiple sources to a single, national database
  • Assist in the management of the server infrastructure and software for the staging and test environments, including Oracle and SQL Server databases.
  • Managing the export of regional extracts with regional IT units.
  • Running supplier scripts to ingest and merge data into the national solution.
  • Running data verification and transformation scripts and working with end users and suppliers to resolve any issues.
  • Assisting end users with data mapping of source and target fields ahead of the data migration to enable imported data to be mapped to the relevant fields using the software tools provided.
  • Testing of data migration and schema transfers during migration events. Supporting end users during testing activities.
  • Ensuring that all security aspects are met for the purposes of transferring the data to the national solution.

Note that the following will also be required:

  • DV STRAP Clearance
  • Regular travel to sites across the UK as part of the national migration.
  • Occasional weekend working to support live migrations out of office hours (expected 1 day per month)

Experience - Essential

  • Experience of working with Microsoft SQL Server;
  • Experience ofworking with Oracle
  • Experience of Oracle schema exports.
  • Experience in building queries and stored procedures in SQL;
  • Experience of complex database migrations (e.g. Legacy Oracle to MS SQL);
  • Experience of testing migrations and working with test resource
  • Conduct investigations to support defect root cause analysis of migration issues.

Experience - Desirable

  • SQL Certification
  • ITIL v3+ Foundation
