About the role
GOSH Charity's Company Secretary is an instrumental role in the Charity Leadership Group.

The role has accountability for the Charity's compliance with legal requirements and maintaining high standards of corporate governance, including internal audit, risk, data protection, safeguarding, whistleblowing, procurement, and insurance.

The role holds a key position at the heart of the governance operations supporting Trustees to ensure the proper conduct of the Charity in regard to ensuring compliance with the regulatory and statutory obligations.


The ability to balance the need to ensure compliance with all relevant regulation, guidance, and best practice, whilst analysing risks in relation to compliance to facilitate appropriate cost-effective solutions.

You will determine, prepare, and monitor appropriate policies and procedures and ensure the provision of legal advice that supports the delivery of the highest standards of good governance.


We are looking for someone who has focussed on Secretariat, Governance, and Data Protection in their career / who is a governance specialist, who is passionate about good governance and holds a strong belief that governance is an enabler, providing a pragmatic, ethical, achievable, and relevant approach that embeds governance into the heart of business as usual.


About the Team

About You
You will be an experienced Company Secretary with specialist knowledge in data protection


Specifically, you will have:

  • Proven experience leading a Governance, Secretariat and Compliance function.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of leading and advising on Data Protection compliance.
  • Experience in identifying pragmatic solutions for legal and governance matters.
  • Experience in conveying complex legal and governance matters to a wide audience of internal stakeholders, management, and Trustees.
  • Working knowledge of corporate and charity law, audit, risk, procurement, and other corporate services desirable.
  • Working knowledge of the charity/notforprofit sector desirable.
  • Chartered Governance Institute qualified desirable.
  • Industry recognised Data Protection qualification desirable.

This role is based in our Central London office (WC1N, opposite Russell Square underground) with a minimum of 2 days working in the London office with the option to work remotely up to three days a week.
