    We are working with a SME Offshore Consultancy who have an opening for the position of Senior Geotechnical Consultant Offshore Design, based in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Overview
***: Our client provides expert geotechnical design and consulting services to the offshore oil and gas and renewables sectors. Utilising the advantages of a small company they employ a team ethos to ensure that best results are delivered in an environment where people feel empowered, safe, trusted, confident and inspired to develop.


You will be working alongside and supporting the engineering director leading in the preparation and delivery of geotechnical studies, designs, and reports, from conception, bid stage, through to completion and delivery to the client.


Some projects, such as jack up analyses, are often required to be turned around in 24hrs, whilst other projects, may go on for a number of months.

Projects can vary from geotechnical design of, for example, foundations, scour assessment, to cable routing and burial assessments.


The majority of projects will initially be desk based; however, the role is anticipated to allow development into opportunities to face with clients.

Responsibilities
***- Support the Engineering Director and junior staff in the preparation of geotechnical studies, designs and reports.

  • Conduct and supervise data assessments and geotechnical analyses.
  • Client liaison and lead in the preparation of geotechnical study reports.
  • Maintain time and project records.
  • Assist in the technical and commercial management and planning of the business.
  • Proactively develop technical skills in accordance with the needs of the job and the agreed personal development plan. Seek help or guidance when knowledge gaps arise.

HSE Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate and lead by example in the Company's Quality and HSE Systems and Procedures.
  • Comply with all reasonable Health and Safety instructions from our client and their parent companies.
  • Correctly handle all Health and Safety equipment.
  • Recognize and help control HSE hazards where applicable.
  • Report all Health, Safety and Environment incidents, including near misses, unsafe acts and hazards to management.
  • Help generate, update and review risk assessments and job safety analysis, where applicable.
  • Understand emergency plans, alarms and actions required in the event of an emergency.
  • Participate in relevant HSE meetings.
  • Assume all employee responsibilities listed in the Workplace Safety and Health Act.
  • The Senior Geotechnical Engineer reports to the Engineering Director under normal office duties.

Requirements:


Required:

  • Five years' working in a geotechnical engineering environment in the offshore sector.
  • Knowledge of ground investigation, geotechnical engineering and geological processes.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (English).
  • Good IT skills, with the ability to use Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Must have status which legally allows full time employment in the UK.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS, Global Mapper and proprietary software for geotechnical analysis, such as PLAXIS, GIS, GRL WEAP.

Beneficial:

  • Demonstrable background in an engineering environment, specifically in the offshore sector.
  • Offshore foundation design. Soilstructure integration, jack up leg penetration assessment, trenching assessments, Cable Burial Risk Assessment (CBRA), Seismic Hazard Assessment (PSHA).
  • Active participation/graduate membership of a professional organization such as the Institution of Civil Engineers, Geological Society, Society for Underwater Technology.
