The Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine is seeking a Senior Quality Officer.

The role is based within Faculty Education Services (FES) which coordinates all aspects of programme and student administration for more than 100 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and supports over 7000 students.


The Quality Assurance (QA) team manage and coordinate the adherence of all programmes to both College and professional regulatory and compliance requirements.

The work includes internal and external reviews, annual monitoring and review, curriculum development, statutory reporting (for some programmes), evaluation and feedback coordination, collaborative partnership development and monitoring and QA governance.


Adopting a proactive and flexible approach, the role holder will lead and coordinate activity for a defined area of work contained within the remit of the QA team.

This may involve committee servicing, internal and external quality reviews, working collaboratively with a broad range of academics, administrative colleagues and stakeholders; producing timely, comprehensive documentation and reporting for all statutory returns and programme accreditation or validation events.


The post holder may coordinate and facilitate monitoring and evaluation requirements across a range of collaborative partners, including the organisation of quality visits and audit schedules, review of student feedback, preparation and publication of reports and proactive follow up on action plans or recommendations.

There may be a requirement for the post holder to attend curriculum development meetings, therefore an understanding of quality assurance in higher education and ability to advise with reference to the UK Quality Code is desired.

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract.

This is a full-time post.

Key responsibilities

Work collaboratively and build networks with stakeholders (e.g. academic quality leads, programme and module leads, clinical academics, staff across partner providers) and central College services


Organise operational planning across the programme cycle and quality assurance frameworks; ensuring timely coordination of meetings, audits, partner visits, reporting and statutory returns.

Travel to placement sites to meet with students and staff will be required.

Provide advice and guidance related to quality assurance and curriculum development in line with sector and institutional expectations


Ensure programme procedures and quality routines effectively meet College and programme governance requirements as well as external compliance with professional, statutory and regulatory bodies (PSRB) (e.g.

, General Medical Council, General Pharmaceutical Council)

Ensure information and data comprehensively and accurately collated to meet internal and external submission deadlines

Support coordination and review of programme monitoring (e.g. placement surveys, student meetings), responding to quality concerns, identifying risk and escalating where necessary. This involves working across FES to close the feedback loop and to improve the quality of teaching.

Provide committee servicing duties to relevant Quality Sub-Committees; organising meetings, room bookings, agenda production, paper distribution, following up on actions through to resolution and ensuring information is available to enable effective decision making by the members

Draft curriculum, quality, policy and procedural guidance, across varying media (e.g. virtual learning environment) and updating collaborative partners as required

Maintain up to date knowledge of programmes, College regulations, quality assurance frameworks (QAA) and PSRB requirements to provide informed guidance

Essential criteria

  • Bachelor or equivalent degree
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; demonstrable ability to present information clearly, accurately and concisely to diverse stakeholders
  • Data literacy skills and attention to detail with methodical, exacting standards of written and numerical accuracy
  • Experience of reviewing and producing policy or procedural documentation
  • IT experience, across all Microsoft packages; with significant experience of databases (student records systems)
  • Proactive and able to work independently and as a team to meet deadlines across competing priorities and provide solutions to problems.
