The University is in the midst of an ambitious plan to develop the Glasgow City Centre Campus and other operating assets.

Since 2010, over £600 million has been spent on improving the estate and tackling backlog maintenance and operational issues.

To support the delivery of these ambitious plans the senior Estates Services Management Team leads a multi-disciplinary department encompassing Strategy, Climate Change planning and delivery, Active Travel, Resource Management, Engagement, Sustainability and Social Responsibility, the Decarbonisation and Climate Resilience, Capital Projects, Maintenance, Operations, Space Planning, Timetabling, Cleaning, Grounds and Administrative services.

As a member of the Estates Senior Leadership Team, the Executive Lead Sustainability will work closely with the other Assistant Directors of Estates responsible for Estate Development, Operations and Strategy to ensure that Estates Services supports the achievement of University goals and objectives.

This role exists to ensure successful and sector leading operational sustainability that is aligned with wider University sustainability strategies and development plans.

In the next few years, additional capital investment is planned to support the University activities, and to move the institution into a position where Sustainability, Climate Change awareness, Resource use, Social Responsibility and the Decarbonisation and Climate Resilience are embedded in all activities.

The focus will be on ensuring that this funding is invested so that the estate assets are operating at optimum efficiency whilst delivering the University's strategic themes.

Identifying and delivering business case outputs will be key as well as securing external funding opportunities.

The University's commitment to a more sustainable future is a key part of the University's strategic aim to be a sustainable, effective, and efficient organisation.

The University already has an award-winning Climate neutral Districts Vision for its operating assets and leadership is needed to deliver this vision.

The post holder will be the lead person responsible for developing this vision and related plans for sustainability for the University of Strathclyde and delivering an integrated strategy that will support the University's sustainability agenda.

The post holder will work with colleagues across the University as part of the wider Sustainable Strathclyde Team and act as a key player in advising the University's Strategic Sustainability Steering Group and related groups and be a catalyst for a partnership between students, faculty, staff and key stakeholders to establish the University as an exemplar "walk the talk" institution and will influence and work with a number of stakeholders across all levels of the University in order to implement and embed this vision and strategy.

Working closely with academic and student sustainability representatives and groups.

A key objective for the role will be to ensure that sustainability is 'everyone's business' in the University of Strathclyde, and that staff and students at every level understand the sustainability agenda and their role in its delivery.

Interviews are scheduled to take place on 11 September 2023.
