Job Title:
Early Years Specialist Childcare Practitioner level 3


Responsible to:


Main Purpose of the Job:


  • To work under the direction of the manager and deputy manager to ensure that the Phoenix Centre meets the statutory requirements of the
Early Years Foundation Stage.

To provide inclusive play and learning opportunities for all children attending the nursery and to maintain a safe stimulating and enjoyable environment.

To work within the team to participate in curriculum planning. To develop appropriate learning opportunities to enhance the development of all the children. To work in partnership with parents/carers and other professionals.


Main Responsibilities:


  • To maintain a positive image of the provision, in relation to its visions and ethos.
  • To assist the manager to ensure that, the provision meets the Early Years
Foundation Stage Safeguarding and welfare requirements.


  • To fulfil their role and responsibility in safeguarding children and vulnerable adults by recognising indicators of abuse, recording, and reporting concerns with strict adherence to Dudley Safeguarding
Children's Board policies and procedures


  • To undertake safeguarding training every three years.
  • To deliver the statutory framework for learning and development within the
Early Years Foundation Stage,


  • To undertake the role of Key Person responsible for meeting the individual needs of the children by supporting personal and/or additional care routines, this may include administration of medication, feeding through pegs and carrying out flushes.
  • To provide exciting and challenging play opportunities by effective planning, observation, monitoring, assessment, and evaluation through a range of strategies according to the individual needs of the children in your care and to keep accurate records of their achievements. Using Birth to 5
Matters and Engagement for Learning.


  • To use professional knowledge of the individual and diverse ways that children learn and develop incorporating the characteristics of effective learning and British Values, to meet each child's differing needs in promoting effective teaching and learning
  • To act as a role model providing an established positive and sensitive relationship with key children where achievable expectations can be met
  • To be part of the team that provides a purposeful organised and stimulating environment rich in learning opportunities both indoors and outdoors. Ensuring that resources and equipment are available and appropriate to meet the needs of the individual child where differentiation can be applied appropriately
  • To supervise the children where appropriate and to protect them from dangerous or harmful situations. where appropriate to be responsible for care plans, risk assessments and behaviour plans and follow and review accordingly
  • To meet the physical needs of the children where appropriate. To undertake Safer People Handling training to enable the practitioner to move and handle non
- mobile children in a safe manner that is best practise for the child and practitioner. To also encourage a good level of hygiene whilst promoting independence to provide a high level of care that will enhance the children's general health and well being. To be responsible when required to assist the children with personal care needs.

This will include nappy changing, toileting, feeding and administering medication in accordance with their individual care plans and risk assessments.


  • To promote the inclusion of all children.
  • To be aware of children's special educational needs and support these children effectively in developing appropriate individual targets and completing assessment files.
  • To keep informative accurate and up to date records including records of progress and any behavioural or development reports and reviews.
  • To respect the confidentiality of information relating to children and their families and be confident in how and when to share information
  • To establish and maintain positive relationships with children and their families in a way that values parental involvement, where liaising can be beneficial and positive about the children's needs and interests, feedback progress achievements and reports from other professional and other related matters at termly reviews.
  • To support parent partnership by doing regular home visits with the manger
  • To attend any meetings regarding individuals children and contribute in line with other professional.
  • To liaise and work in partnership with all visiting professional sharing targets in accordance with the child individual needs. other agencies both statutory and voluntary
  • To liaise in partnership with other agencies both statutory and non statutory and voluntary where appropriate.
