Description

To work in partnership with schools to identify and meet their needs, including those at wave 1 and wave 2 To assess and evaluate children referred to speech and language therapy, and their communication context.

To develop appropriate communication targets, and mentor staff and parents in skill building and the development of nurturing language learning environments.

To provide information and advice to others regarding the management and care of clients with communication difficulties. To adapt practice to meet individual patients circumstances, including due regard for cultural and linguistic differences.

To ensure that patients and their families are involved in the planning of their care plans wherever possible.

To demonstrate empathy with clients, carers, families and colleagues, ensuring that effective communication is achieved, particularly where barriers to understanding exist.

To demonstrate skills in motivating clients, and adults supporting them. To contribute to interagency/MDT collaborative working.


To manage and prioritise own caseload To employ clinical effectiveness by use of evidence based practice and therapy outcome measures.

To gather activity data accurately and regularly. To participate in risk management, quality standards setting and clinical effectiveness. To be accountable for own professional action and recognise own professional boundaries, seeking advice as appropriate.

To work within defined departmental and national protocols/policies and professional code of conduct. To write reports reflecting specialist knowledge, including contributions to EHCPs. To maintain up to date and accurate case notes in line with RCSLT professional standards and local trust/agency policies. To share information with others observing data protection guidelines.

To work with the team to continually evaluate service delivery and propose changes to working practices/procedures as appropriate. To collect and provide research data as required e.g. research for groups, own evidence-based practice, peer meetings, service development To supervise work of assistants and volunteers where appropriate. To supervise students on placement.
