A talented Cafe Chef / Baker is needed to join our team at Hundred Monkeys Cafe based in Glastonbury. We are an independent high-street cafe and restaurant focusing on seasonal, organic local food in a thriving tourist town, full of eclectic businesses

We are open in the daytime only and serve breakfast and lunch 5 days a week, Wednesday to Sunday. We also serve our own cakes, pastries and desserts throughout the day.

Our dishes are simple, hearty and nutritious featuring traditional recipes as well as taking inspiration from the different cuisines of the world and featuring both vegan and meat-based dishes in equalmeasure.


About the Role


Please note that a large element of this role involves the preparation of a seasonal selection of cakes, cookies, tarts, scones, quiches and desserts, so a competence and passion for baking is essential.

The other side of this role is supporting the HeadChef in the preparation and service of our main menu. Lone working will be required on occasion. The role also includes cleaning duties, washing up and other supportive tasks involved in the running of the kitchen. The role does not involve any staff supervisionor management.


We do not operate in the same way as a large commercial kitchen, and this role is very much a hands-on role.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Helping to plan seasonal bakery menus
  • Making cakes, biscuits, quiche, savouries and tarts.
  • Assisting with prep for the main menus
  • Working alone during quiet periods
  • Adhering to all food hygiene practices for all staff working in the kitchen
  • Cleaning and washing up as necessary
  • Working on service preparing dishes to order
  • Ensuring all food is presented well and is of a suitable portion size
  • Responding to customer and manager feedback in a constructive fashion
  • Ensuring all stock is stored correctly and kept within date

Required Skills:


  • A passion for baking
  • Available to work every weekend
  • Good general level of fitness
  • Comprehensive understanding of basic cooking techniques, including soups, stews, cooking meat, sauces, dressings, preparing salads, making shortcrust
  • Morally comfortable preparing meat and fish
  • Can plan effectively and organise own workload
  • Can take direction and delegate effectively to others
  • Cost and wastage conscious
