Overview

The Project

The College Research Institute is responsible for the strategic leadership and organisation of the College's research activity.

It is developing a set of research themes targeted at addressing some of the most pressing challenges in the global sustainability, including the target of achieving net zero emissions to combat the huge threat of climate change.

Our priority is to best use the College's excellence in world leading scientific and technological research to meet this ambition.


The college research themes are:

Earth System Science and Renewable Energy; Conservation and Restoration of Resilient Ecosystems; Sustainable Food Production; One Health; Sustainable High-Value Manufacturing.

Purpose of the Job


To provide effective clerical support as part of the overall administrative support team within the College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, holding specific responsibility for supporting the recently established College Research Institute, associated key role holders and research and impact activities within the College's constituent schools.

Main


Responsibilities:


  • Provide effective clerical support for the range of administrative activity within the College and to the College Research Institute
  • Provide administrative support to the Directors of the College Research Institute and theme leaders. Assist with the organisation and daytoday operation of administrative processes and procedures within the College the College Research Institute.
  • Communicate effectively with both staff and students and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues within the University (e.g. IRIS, Planning, Marketing), and external bodies and individuals.
  • Maintain local filing systems and ensure files required by staff members and other stakeholders are available when required.
  • Maintain and update local systems and/or spreadsheets as requested by the relevant staff member/Line Manager.
  • Act as secretary to college and school level committees and meetings. Organising meetings, drafting agendas, preparing papers, taking minutes and circulating papers as appropriate.
  • Arranging events (e.g. seminar series, away days, workshops, guest lectures), booking venues, arranging catering, communicating with attendees and stakeholders.
  • Liaising with guest lecturers / visiting researchers to the College Research Institute.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion at all times. Assist with the maintenance of research related systems, e.g. PURE, and the College's research webpages.
  • To work as part of a team supporting the College Research Institute and the research and impact agenda in the College.
  • To work across functional team boundaries as part of a larger College administrative team to ensure that core support services are maintained, particularly during holidays and absence and at peak times of activity.

  • The post holder will be expected to participate in performance review and developmental activities.

Essential

  • Experience of working within an office environment in an administrative role.
  • Experience of organising meetings and minute taking.
Desirable

  • A working knowledge of GDPR and a proven ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Experience of working within a Higher Education environment.
  • Experience of working with databases.
  • Experience of developing and implementing administrative systems and procedures.
  • Knowledge of academic research and research impact in a university setting.
  • Experience of arranging events with ext
