Description
We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious person to join our Democratic and Elections Team.

You will join a professional, friendly, dynamic and busy team at the heart of the Council's democratic and decision-making process, working with senior officers and district Councillors to help shape local democracy.

This is an interesting and varied role.

You will manage your own portfolio of Committees, assist with scrutiny reviews, support Elected Members, provide advice to Officers and Elected Members and organise and contribute to democratic and governance projects.

Whilst working primarily within the democratic functions of the team, you will take a lead role in delivering elections and support electoral registration.

The Person

With a successful track record in supporting the local government decision making process and an eye for detail, you will be ready for a new challenge in local government and want to make a real difference.

A good working knowledge of local government law and procedure is essential, and you must be able to provide accurate advice to both Councillors and Officers.

Key skills include being well organised, able to think logically, plan ahead and work under pressure to deal with pre-determined deadlines and competing priorities.

A working knowledge of the committee management system would be an advantage.

The Benefits

The Council is an equal opportunities employer. We offer agile working, which means we don't have a rigid work location. Our staff work from home and in the office to suit the business need.

Other benefits include:

  • A generous annual leave entitlement
  • Opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Incremental pay award (awarded annually in April after one years' service)
