Role Overview


Citi's Legal Department in Belfast is a team of approximately 190 staff, covering a range of products and services across Citi's Europe, Middle East and Africa region (known as "EMEA").

The department is critical to Citi's global operations and works closely with the London Legal Department to provide legal coverage for a wide range of financial products and services, advising to many business areas with a particular focus on Citi's Institutional Client Group.


This role is in Citi's EMEA Investment Banking Legal team in Belfast which supports both the Equity Capital Markets ("ECM") and Mergers & Acquisitions ("M&A") Legal teams.

Both the ECM and M&A Legal teams are part of the broader ICG Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory ("BCMA") Legal team.

BCMA Legal is a global team providing legal coverage and support for Citi's Equity Capital Markets, Mergers & Acquisitions, Debt Capital Markets and Issuer Services businesses.

Citi's ECM and M&A businesses are both market-leading in the EMEA region.


Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting, negotiating and managing legal documentation, in particular, confidentiality agreements, backtoback agreements to confidentiality agreements, engagement letters, requests for proposal, disclaimers, nonreliance and hold harmless letters.
  • Identifying franchise risk and policy/business waivers that may be required.
  • Identifying legal risks and opportunities presented by transactions and ensuring that Citi's policy, legal and regulatory standards are maintained.
  • Liaising with Citi colleagues in other legal teams including litigation, data protection, regulation and country counsel, as well as other groups within Citi, such as Risk, Tax, Compliance, Business Selection and Control Group.
  • Provide support to other team members to ensure that BAU activities carried out by the team are completed accurately and to the highest standard.

Knowledge/Experience

  • Experience in financial services.
  • Ability to multitask and take personal responsibility/ownership of a number of projects concurrently.
  • Exposure to working in a fast paced and time sensitive environment.
  • Previous experience in a senior support capacity would be advantageous.
  • Previous experience in a legal advisory environment would be advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors/University degree in law or business; or

  • Learn to manage legal risk in a large variety of scenarios typical of an international investment bank;
