As the Head of Land, Property & Consents, you will play a critical role in driving this growth by sourcing new land opportunities and establishing vital agreements and permissions for our projects.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish, lead, and develop a team of professionals in various land, property, planning, and GIS disciplines. Allocate work in line with the Distributed Energy 5year plan to ensure project development and delivery aligns with business priorities.
  • Proactively participate in improving performance across the business. Take the lead in elevating the profile of land, property, and consents related objectives through seniorled business committees. Successfully identify and act on key business risks and opportunities.
  • Define, develop, and own land, property, and consents strategies, policies, procedures, and priorities. Ensure a consistent, proportionate, and legally compliant/defendable approach is taken across the business. Assemble, develop, and maintain all necessary rights in land, property, and consents required for project delivery, while minimizing operational and project risks.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders such as large land and property stakeholders, Government Bodies, Statutory and Consenting Bodies, other Network Operators, and internal business units. Maximize the potential of the Distributed Energy business while safeguarding the interests of our customers, stakeholders, and the environment.
  • Establish structured and professional liaison with landlords and introducers across a diverse range of property types. Drive deals that develop asset infrastructure value for SSE Distributed Energy.
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Expert knowledge of the system of landownership in the UK, including legal rights.
  • Expert knowledge of strategies to reduce land, property, and consents related risks in major infrastructure projects.
  • Expert knowledge of legal rights in land, property, and consents, including compensation and valuation.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to influence and instill confidence in key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex property matters clearly and positively to both internal and external stakeholders.
