The SMART Centre is one of 5 centres in Scotland (Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow and Inverness) providing Rehabilitation Technology Services and covers Lothian, Fife and the Borders (approx.

25% of Scotland's population).

These include Mobility and Postural Services (wheelchairs and special seating), Prosthetics, Orthotics, Bioengineering Services, a Disabled Living Centre and Gait Analysis Service.

We are also one of two Centres in Scotland providing a national Specialist Prosthetics Service and we also provide a national Driving Assessment Service and Spinal Orthotics Service.

SMART is part of the Rehabilitation Service of the Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership. The department has its own specialist workshops and stores on site. SMART workshops provide in-house manufacturing and (outsourced) modified medical devices across the range of activities mentioned above.

The Prosthetics service consists of the Head of Prosthetics and Orthotics Services, Prosthetics Team Lead, 6.3 (wte) Prosthetists. We currently have 3 in-house prosthetic technicians as well as 2 Modern Apprentice Orthotics and Prosthetics Technicians. We are currently using external companies to support some of our manufacture due to vacancies in our technical team.

We aim to deliver high quality patient centred care as part of a multidisciplinary team.

The successful applicants will be conducting a mixture of face to face and telephone/Near Me clinics, and will be supported by Senior Prosthetists.
