We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Guideline Midwife.


As the Guideline Midwife you will lead on the co-ordination and development of guidelines for the Women's and Children's Care Group within the Trust.

You will work alongside the Guideline Lead Consultants for Obstetrics and Gynecology and Paediatrics.

This role will include participation in clinical governance.


You will have the ability to monitor evidence and developments within the Maternity Services, ensuring that emerging themes and recommendations as a result of audits/incidents are incorporated into guidelines.


  • Lead on the coordination and development of guidelines.
  • Work alongside the guideline lead Consultants for Obstetrics and Gynecology and Paediatrics, and be responsible for leading, coordinating and monitoring the update of guidelines within the Women's and Children's care group.
  • Coordinate horizon scanning of all the WACS guidelines ensuring guidelines are reviewed 6 months before they expire. Horizon scan the publication of relevant regional and national documents to ensure local guidelines are reviewed to reflect national changes.
  • Provide specialist advice and support in relation to the format of guidelines, policies and SOPs

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises.


FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
