The role of the Healthcare Assistant will be to be trained as an NCSCT certified stop smoking practitioner in order to support the delivery of evidenced based, equitable stop smoking services to help to reduce health inequalities throughout County Durham.

This will include the delivery of services within areas of most deprivation. It is essential that the postholder can work flexibly, independently and as part of a team.

This post will work under the line management of the Project Lead and supervised by the Head of Service.

The role will be varied, challenging, and rewarding as the services develop as part of the national 10 - year plan.

You will be a motivated, passionate, organised, and proactive individual.


Some of the essential criteria for the role:

  • Training/Qualification or experience in a Health & Social Care setting.
  • Experience helping people with behavioural change and delivering health promotion.
  • Experience of working proactively and unsupervised on a daytoday basis
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing at all levels with individuals, groups and the public.
  • A positive outlook with an ability to inspire confidence, provide vision and motivate people.
  • Ability to influence using skills and knowledge.
  • Ability to prioritise work tasks.
  • Understanding concepts of behaviour change and how to implement these.
