Due to the recent internal promotion of the current post holder, we are seeking a Lead Tutor for our provision dedicated to employment support and work-related skills.

Ideally you will be a qualified teacher/assessor who has experience of supporting adults into work.

The Lead Tutor will need to have knowledge of the local labour market, experience of employer engagement and the skills and talent to deliver engaging skills development courses that focus on CV writing, self-marketing, preparation for interviews and basic digital skills.

New Directions College is Reading Borough Council's Adult and Community Learning service. This year we're celebrating 65 years of Adult Learning in Reading.

We're a small friendly College delivering to over 2000 learners and apprentices each year, directly and through our subcontractors and partners.

We seek the best talent from the widest pool of people as diversity and inclusion is the key to our success.

Reading Borough Council is a Disability Confident Employer and is committed to the recruitment and continued employment of people with disabilities.

About The Role

We are looking for someone with experience of teaching employability programmes and digital skills courses from Beginners to Advanced level.

You should have relevant occupational competence and professional teaching/assessing qualifications with experience of delivering provision against an accredited curriculum.

Ideally you will also hold a relevant quality assurance qualification of relevant experience so that you can conduct IQA activities across the curriculum area.

You will support the Curriculum Manager with curriculum planning and development and take an active role in liaising with potential learners, building partnerships with local employers and stakeholders, and representing the college at external events.

You will also be involved in operational duties such as timetabling, supporting and mentoring colleagues, conducting observations of teaching, learning and assessment and working within a wider team of Lead Tutors across a range of curriculum areas.

You will lead initial assessment activities for learners and provide information, advice, and guidance.

You will be responsible for designing schemes of work against a given curriculum and for producing and delivering highly effective teaching and learning resources.

You must be organised and able to work effectively under pressure with an understanding of the administrative commitment involved in delivering an outstanding quality of education.

You will work with learners to produce individual learning plans and will manage frequent progress review activities so that the learner consistently has the best chance of success.

This is a challenging but highly rewarding role with the scope for continuous professional development and the opportunity to be highly involved in curriculum planning and design as well as overarching quality management.

All Tutors at the College are given free annual membership to the Society for Education and Training (SET) which offers a vast array of CPD opportunities.

You'll be part of a team that relies on each individual to play their part to the best of their ability.

As well as the colleagues that you work closely with every day, you'll also be part of Team Reading, playing your personal part in making Reading a successful and vibrant place.

Our vision is to ensure that Reading realises its potential as a great place to live, work and play, and that everyone shares the benefits of this success.

Our values and behaviours guide how we will achieve this:

Work Together as one team - work collaboratively, with each other and with our partners, and demonstrate the Team Reading values in everything we do

Drive Efficiency - show initiative, be adaptable to change and put forward ideas to help improve delivery and efficiency. Take responsibility for our own learning and development and for reaching our potential

Be Ambitious - be demanding of our own performance - striving to be even better - and be prepared to engage with and challenge leaders in a constructive and positive way
