Sport in Mind is an independent mental health charity founded in Berkshire in 2010, with a simple mission: _
"To improve the lives of people experiencing mental health problems through sport and physical activity".

Sport in Mind is the UK's leading mental health sports charity, delivering physical activity projects in partnership with the NHS to promote mental wellbeing, improve physical health, combat social isolation, and empower people to move their lives forward in a positive direction.


Our services are co-designed by people with personal experience of mental health problems and healthcare professionals, and we have supported over 20,000 people.

We are seeking an experienced sports coach to deliver our award-winning frontline service with adults and young people.

The primary goal of this role is to provide, supportive, accessible and welcoming sport and activity sessions for people experiencing mental health challenges, and promote the work of Sport In Mind while representing the charity's values and ethos.

Job Purpose_


We are seeking an experienced sports coach to deliver our award-winning sports and educational programmes for adults and young people.

The purpose of this role is to provide, supportive, accessible and welcoming sport and activity sessions for people experiencing mental health challenges, deliver physical activity focused workshops for young people and promoting the work of Sport In Mind, while representing the charity's values and ethos.

Main Duties and Responsibilities_


  • Establish and manage high quality innovative sport and physical activity sessions for people experiencing mental health problems, maintaining the highly regarded reputation that the charity has gained.
  • Delivery of physical activity focused workshops for children and young people
  • Maintaining and managing equipment
  • Carry out robust risk assessments for each session and update accordingly and/or annually.
  • Be responsible for money handling (e.g. cashing cheques, collecting and delivering money pots).
  • Complete data entry for sessions. Ensuring all relevant data is collected for each funding body.
  • Be committed to good practice and ensure familiarity with all Sport in Mind policies and procedures (e.g. health and safety, confidentiality and safeguarding)
  • To promote equality and diversity in all aspects of your work by developing and maintaining relationships, ensuring that colleagues are treated fairly and with respect/dignity.
  • Represent the charity at local and national events.

Person Specification

Qualifications/Education/Training_

  • Level 2 sports coaching qualification
  • First aid
  • Safeguarding qualification (desirable but can be obtained through Sport in Mind)
  • Driving License

Experience_

  • Previous experience in sports coaching or teaching
  • Advocate sport and physical activity benefits for physical and mental health
  • Experience working with children or vulnerable clients highly desirable.

Skills, Abilities & Competencies_

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Enthusiastic, approachable, and capable of engaging vulnerable audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with participants and partners.
  • Organised and detailoriented to manage schedules and administrative tasks.
  • Passion for promoting mental health and physical wellbeing.

  • This role requires frequent travel within Thames Valley and surrounding area
  • A valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle is essential.
  • Hours will vary depending on demand
