Education and Training:

The post holder will: Contribute to the delivery of specific and relevant teaching programmes for all disciplines and grades of staff, client group and carers within the Trust and community in relation to area of speciality.

Review and evaluate relevant teaching programmes and contribute to the development of new programmes when a need is identified.

Pursue their own education in line with national agendas, and personal need formulating personal objectives related to service need within personal development plan.

Seek appropriate peer support and clinical supervision.

Provide clinical supervision. Provide an environment that encourages client centred involvement where clients are facilitated to ask for help, advice and education. Participate in the development of clinical governance systems and structures ensuring service is represented as appropriate. Ensure all clinical practice is evidence based.

Evaluate clinical practice by contributing to audits of service/role.

Demonstrate knowledge of current research in all aspects of their work and to advise others on the implementation of relevant research findings to practice.

Develop research projects in response to identified needs of the patients/service.

Performance and Data Management The post holder will:

Participate actively in the major trauma centre audit process as required and support the analysis and presentation of the data.


Ensure that opportunities for non-medical research and audit are maximised, to support the improvement of clinical outcomes and patient experience.

Ensure that research and audit activity is conducted in line with Trust standards and that results shared with other Specialties as appropriate.

Support the Clinical Lead for major trauma in keeping a comprehensive up to date trauma registry. Undertake regular clinical audits in line with the Trauma Audit Research Network (TARN) and Trust Audit Department.


In line with Caldicott principles and Trust information sharing policies provide clinical feedback to pre-hospital providers and referring hospitals to facilitate their audit and governance procedures.

Maximise opportunities to share good practices and innovations with colleagues both locally and nationally.

Support the major trauma Clinical Lead to ensure the major trauma centre has clearly defined performance objectives supported by systems and processes which will deliver continuous improvement.

Work with the Clinical Teams to regularly review the effectiveness of care pathways and to identify and rectify any blockages to performance.

Contribute to the major trauma centres performance in order to build a sustainable future.

Professional The post holder will be:
A Qualified Clinical Practitioner registered with appropriate regulatory body (i.e., NMC/HPC/BAOT/CSP).

Responsible for own practice in line with their professional Code of Conduct Provide clinical support, clinical supervision and undertake PDR with junior members of the team Maintain own competency to practice through CPD activities, demonstrating awareness of new trends and developments and their incorporation into practice as necessary.

Maintain professional portfolio to demonstrate competency in line with Trust/Service/Network competency framework.

Comply with their registering bodies regulations relating to their professional registration. Contribute to the supervisory and peer review process. Act as a role model at all times.

Have professional accountability Leadership The post holder will be expected to:

Act as a role model for the Major Trauma Centre and Alder Hey NHS Foundation Trust by adhering to standards of care and behaviour through clinical practice.

Participate in the development of MDT/team objectives for the Major Trauma Service.

Maintain personal standards of conduct and behaviour consistent with Trust and NMC/HCPC/RCOT/CSP Demonstrate the ability to, coordinate, monitor and assess own workload.

Make appropriate use of resources. Addresses deficits in service, by identifying changes to service, in order to ensure that these deficits are resolved.

Participate in the implementation and delivery of the standards set within the Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions Strategy.
