Where in the world of OVO will I be working?


You will be based in our London Headquarters, and sit within OVO Energy's Zero Carbon Living (ZCL) Solutions growth business.

This can be a remote role with travel to the office as and when required.


What will I be doing?


Reporting to the ZCL Home Director, the Head of Solar and Storage will help OVO launch, build and scale our new solar and battery storage business.


It's a fantastic opportunity to help the team come out of start up mode and accelerate growth by creating a fully operational business with a mass market proposition for residential homes.


The role is responsible for shaping the 5 year business plan and has full P&L accountability owning the commercials, strategic direction and go to market plan.


  • Build and maintain the solar and storage budget.
  • Manage the business unit, inclusive of commercial, marketing, customer ops, sales and surveying.
  • Lead and own the end to end go to market strategy.
  • Own the business and customer economics, creating attractive propositions that drive significant growth in line with forecasts.
  • Be the responsible person for both the sale and technical survey elements of a solar and battery installation.
  • Own [in partnership with the finance business partner] the weekly/monthly reporting, including P&L performance vs budget and a detailed understanding of unit economics
  • Work extremely closely with the fulfilment teams, e.g., internal and external 3rd parties, responsible for the successful and safe installation of solar and storage systems in residential homes.
  • Work with our Head of Market Design and Flexibility and our Kaluza platform to create sustainable and attractive storage flexibility propositions that drive consumer benefit and business growth.
  • Take responsibility for managing and developing relationships with existing and new partners in the renewable generation space.
  • Work closely with the product and tech teams to create the customer journeys required to drive scale and profitability.
  • Evaluate and own risks, challenges and opportunities, making recommendations on future strategy.
  • Own the external hardware relationships that allow integration and flexibility opportunities that differentiate OVO from competitors.
  • Drive the thought leadership around financing Solar and Battery, in time making the proposition accessible and attractive to a scale volume of UK households
  • Engage with the policy and public affairs team, staying abreast of relevant policy consultations and decisions that help us adapt to the environment in which we operate.
  • Represent OVO at external industry events

Is this the job for me?

  • Ideally you will be/have the following: - Significant background in the renewable energy industry, specifically with regards to solar PV installations and home battery storage.
  • Ideally have worked in the residential solar sector.
  • Experience in a startup, fast paced and tech based environment.
  • Experience of building business cases, forecasting and budgeting.
  • A track record of delivering significant value via operational businesses, revenue, profit and strategic values.
  • Ideally have a sound technical knowledge of both hardware and software solutions relevant to renewable generation.
  • Comfort and experience of working within a fastpaced product led environment
  • Sales background that includes managing sales teams that sell products to consumers in their own homes.
  • A strong working knowledge of MCS standards and accreditations requirements such as RECC, HIES, NICEIC, Napit etc.
  • Excellent communications skills with the ability to engage audiences at senior exec and C suite level.
  • Some technical knowledge of the energy retail market would be an advantage.
  • Effective networking skills.
  • Proven project management skills with the ability to see the bigger picture and deliver at pace.
  • Able to operate at a high level independently.
  • Skilled at writing with an ability to explain complex topics and issues in a way that is accessible to a wide range of audiences.
