PLA Administrator

A key role in the support of the eLearning department at Coleg Sir Gar is an Administrator who maintains all student records and registrations, handles telephone enquiries and manages the student help line.

The Administrator also liaises with all the tutors, the technical support team and with other functional areas of the college such as Finance and Registry.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support for the PLA team, including administration associated with the distance learning and face to face course systems both internal and external such as learndirect, BCS, Highfield and eCareers;
  • Maintain records relating to activities by all contributors to the delivery systems;
  • Act as a call centre operator for the PLA learning information help line, ensuring prompt responses to all queries;
  • Ensure that all quality assurance procedures in relation to PLA are followed;
  • Ensure the efficient and effective recording of data in relation to PLA Ensure that appropriate evidence and systems are in place as required for inspection;
  • Attend regular team meetings and other relevant college meetings as required;
  • Participate in the college's appraisal scheme and undertake appropriate staff development activities;
  • Contribute ideas and support to the operation of the PLA activity on a regular basis;
  • Carry out any other duties as directed by the Principal/Chief Executive commensurate with the grade of the post at the initial place of work or other locations within the College

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

Essential Criteria:


  • A minimum of 5 GCSE's Grades A-C
  • Good analytical skills
  • Ability to problem solve, either alone or within an appropriate team of people
  • High degree of self motivation
  • Diplomacy and tact
  • Ability to produce work of high quality
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to display confidence and establish positive relationships

Desirable Criteria:


  • ECDL or Equivalent
  • Experience of working in a busy office environment
  • A current driving licence

Welsh Language Requirements:


  • Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking)

  • Level 1/2

In 2013 it became Coleg Sir Gar Ltd, a company within the University of Wales:
Trinity Saint David Group, and part of a regional Dual Sector University. The College has an annual turnover of over £35m and employs around 800 staff.

Coleg Ceredigion was created in 1985 and became a corporate institution in 1993. The college merged with the University of Wales Trinity Saint David as a subsidiary company in 2014. The college has an annual turnover of £6m and employs around 180 staff.


The College is based in South West Wales and has seven main campuses at Llanelli (Graig), Carmarthen (Pibwrlwyd and Jobs Well), Ammanford, Llandeilo (Gelli Aur), Aberystwyth and Cardigan.
