As an experienced registered professional working at a Trust-wide level, the post holder will have a lead role in ensuring that the Trust has robust mechanisms in place for safeguarding, and public protection, including those required for the Trust to fulfil its statutory duties.


The post holder will have a lead role in ensuring that the Trust fulfils its statutory duties in relation to Vulnerable People - this includes: learning disabilities, physical disabilities, mental health patients, dementia, older persons, children, young adults and pregnant women.


The post holder will be required to draw on / ensure access to high levels of specialist knowledge about safeguarding, public protection, and vulnerable persons national policies and processes to support the Executive Office of Nursing, AHPs and Midwifery in delivering on the agendas and in meeting statutory compliance across the Trust.


The Associate Director will lead the Trust's current safeguarding teams, adults, children and vulnerable women and the learning disabilities and dementia services.

Bringing these functions together for the first time.


As a member of the senior nursing, AHP and midwifery team you will be professionally accountable to the Deputy Chief Nurse and Director of Midwifery and be a highly visible member of the Executive Office of Nursing, AHPs and Midwifery.


This exciting new post will lead the safeguarding teams and bring together those teams that support vulnerable patient groups across the Trust.

The post will require someone that has experience and skills in change management, is ambitious for the quality of care we deliver and is able to inspire our people with their compassionate approach.


The post requires extensive partnership working across the health and social care sector as we look to build on our efforts to integrate processes and functions within safeguarding in Gloucestershire.


The post holder will lead and facilitate the Safeguarding Adults and Children programmes and projects with the Deputy Chief Nurse and Director of Midwifery as agreed within the governance and assurance frameworks for the Trust.

These include the MARAC systems, MAPPA systems and Prevent as well as clinical supervision of safeguarding practitioners.

This post is an exciting opportunity to be a pivotal team member of the Executive office of Nursing, AHP and Midwifery and lead our vulnerable patients agenda.


Act as a senior member of the senior team, deputising for the Deputy Chief Nurse and Director of Midwifery and taking responsibility for corporate strategic and operational functions in relation to the Safeguarding and Public Protection agenda including project leadership and sponsorship, on behalf of the organisation.


  • Represent the Executive Office of Nursing, AHPs and Midwifery in key relationships, both within the operational management and governance structures of the Trust and with external partners and agencies.
  • Deputising for the Deputy Chief Nurse and Director of Midwifery in providing advice and guidance to the Trust on all safeguarding issues, service, and practice development in relation to Safeguarding and Public Protection.
  • Deputising for the Deputy Chief Nurse and Director of Midwifery at other forums in functional areas relevant to Safeguarding and Public Protection.
  • Providing operational management leadership to Safeguarding Teams across the trust, bringing these functions together for the first time.
  • Delivering corporate support to the Trust for professional governance and assurance issues relating to nursing and the Safeguarding and Public Protection agenda.
  • Providing professional support to the Trust in relation to research and development initiatives as they relate to the Safeguarding and Public Protection agenda.
  • Ensuring support to other patient safety and safeguarding functions coordinated by the Executive Office of Nursing, AHPs and Midwifery are managed safely and effectively, supporting other colleagues in the team to deliver on Executive Office functions.
  • Working in partnership across boundaries externally and ensuring the differences there are regarding the different Local Authority Areas are incorporated into all safeguarding developments within the Trust.
  • Acting independently, decisively, and effectively within all portfolio areas and being able to challenge current thinking positively and creatively in order to develop new and better policy and operational working practices.
  • Linking in with the Divisions and developing key relationships with the Divisional Directors of Quality & Nursing and Head of Midwifery, supporting these post holders around safeguarding responsibilities within their areas.
  • Work with the Divisions to develop and promote the safeguarding agenda including MARAC, MAPPA and Prevent.
