About the Role
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Working in a tidy, organised and timely fashion, in accordance with laboratory procedures
- Ensuring the laboratory, instruments and glassware are regularly cleaned and kept tidy
- Preparing adequate reagents, samples and supplies for studies
- Developing and validating analytical methods using available instruments and techniques
- Performing analysis and studies as required maintaining high quality standards and in accordance with SOPs
- Recording all results clearly and precisely in laboratory books and electronic records, ensuring all data is captured
- Backup raw data and processed analytical results scan laboratory books and regularly copy electronic files to external hard drives
- Performing data analysis as required
- Writing analytical method development reports and associated SOPs
- Reporting results to Senior/Principal scientist and assist in report writing as required
- Maintaining laboratory instruments, ensuring routine checks and basic maintenance are carried out and documented accordingly
- Performing advance analytical instrument maintenance if required and competent
- Ensuring correct waste handling and disposal
Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum BSc in chemical and related sciences or equivalent experience.
- Familiarity with NMR, GPC, HPLC, FTIR, GC-MS and related techniques.
- Ability to analyse and interpret data using specific data analysis packages.
- Proven track record of delivering effectively to deadlines within academic or industrial environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be practical, diligent and conscientious, able to work alone and as part of a team.
- Be able to uphold and comply with the statutory provision of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and any other relevant legislation and policies or procedures relating to Health & Safety at Work.
- Understand COSHH and risk assessments for procedures in the laboratory
- Aware of PPE and ensure it is used in accordance with Health and Safety and SOPs
- Be eligible to work full time in the UK without restriction.
