Senior Specialist Physiotherpist

Provider has a legacy of over 40 years and a proud track record of supporting hundreds of people each year with autism, learning disabilities, brain injury or physical impairments to live as independently as possible.

Recently have begun to implement an ambitiousnew strategy; one which is predicated on the Trust delivering the greatest impact, for the greatest number of people, in a financially sustainable way.


Main Purpose:

To work as a specialist within the multi/interdisciplinary team providing physiotherapy input within the neurobehavioural model to service users with acquired brain injury, across the three pathways: Neurobehavioural, Neurorestorative, and Wellbeing.

To lead and develop specialist physiotherapy provision within the service. To liaise with internal and external professionals, relevant organisations, family members and service users. To act as a positive professional role model, and to proactively supportthe clinical leadership team to achieve Objectives.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities Clinical / Professional Practice

  • To undertake comprehensive neurological assessments, analyses, and treatment plans.
  • To deliver effective treatment plans and progress/adjust according to the service user response, multi/inter disciplinary team discussion, and other influencing factors.
  • To ensure that treatment plans are informed by the best evidence and practice guidelines.
  • To provide specialist professional advice and support for complex cases, and lead on complex clinical problemsolving.
  • To lead on a specialist area of interest within the wider physio team, in agreement with clinical lead.
  • To work proactively as part of the multi/inter disciplinary team providing physiotherapy input within the Trust's neurobehavioral/ neuropsychological model.
  • To provide specialist physiotherapeutic interventions across the three Trust pathways: Neurobehavioural, Neurorestorative, and Wellbeing.
  • To work safely with service users with challenging behaviours i.e. verbal and physical aggression, mental health disorders, and sexual inhibition.
  • To participate in setting multi/inter disciplinary team goals as per the Trust goal setting guidelines.
  • To identify and safely use relevant physiotherapeutic equipment, devices, and other interventions such as tilt tables, splints, and micro stimulation. This may involve referral to other services.
  • To capture outcomes of treatment, using the Trust's standardised measures.
  • To ensure timely completion of the Trust's outcome measure database, and that the local team are doing so.
  • To effectively manage time and caseload within a potentially pressurised environment.
  • To prioritise own workload and instruct, support, and delegate the workload of the local physiotherapy team.
  • To understand and comply with responsibilities regarding risk management and safeguarding.

Essentials:

  • Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy.
  • Practice placement qualification or willingness to undertake this qualification within the first year
  • Registered HCPC

Knowlege:

  • Specialist knowledge of OT interventions in ABI e.g. cognitive rehabilitation, upper limb rehabilitation.
  • In depth understanding of occupational therapy outcome measures.
  • Knowledge of occupational therapy models of practice.
  • Knowledge of current legislation and policies affecting clinical area and professional practice.
  • Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance and experience of service evaluation and audit.
  • 12 Health, safety & risk awareness, ability to manage complex situations.
  • Understanding of research methods and principles.

Experience:


  • 4 years post registration experience, with at least 2 years specifically in neurological rehabilitation.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • A wide range of experience in rehabilitation settings.
  • Extensive experience of working with service users with neurological deficits, including acquired brain injury.
  • Experience of performing complex physiotherapy assessments and interventions in ABI rehabilitation.
  • Experience of working with service users with challenging behaviours and or mental health difficulties.
  • Experience in using specialist physiotherapy rehabilitation equipment.
  • Proven experience of managing a team.
  • 14 Proven experience of supervision of junior staff and students and understanding of leadership skills.
  • Experience of working within an inter disciplinary team. Clinical experience in using physiotherapy outcome measures.
  • Proven experience of working within a pressurised environment.
  • Proven experience of conducting service development projects.

  • Presentation and learning skills. Ability to build effective relationships. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.

  • Ability to use own initiative.
  • Ability to prioritise workload efficiently in an unpredictable environment and meet specified deadlines.
