We are looking to appoint a full-time ST1 (equivalent) Junior Clinical Fellow in Neurosurgery to the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield.

This is a service post and is fixed term from 01/02/23 to 01/08/23 (6 months) in the first instance, this may be extendable by mutual agreement.


The Junior Clinical Fellow post is designed to support the Neurosurgical team, based predominantly at Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield.

The successful post holder will work alongside Trainee doctors at the same level attending clinics, theatres & ward rounds. A full shift out of hours working pattern is in operation in line with service requirements.

This post is suited for individuals who wish to further a career in Neurosurgery in the United Kingdom. The post does not attract a National Training Number. However reasonable support and supervision will be available for appointees to pursue respective training needs identified. The duties of the post are equivalent to an ST1-2 trainee in Neurosurgery.


The appointee will be responsible in their duties to all the Consultant Neurosurgeons and in some specific aspects of duties to any person that may be nominated by them.


This Sheffield Neurosurgical Department is a regional unit serving a population of approximately 2.2 million covering South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire, and North Lincolnshire.

The Adult Neurosurgical Service is based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital with a 52 bed unit, including a 7 bed Neuro-Critical care and a 13 bed HDU.

The Paediatric Neurosurgical Service is separately located at Sheffield Children's Hospital immediately adjacent to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

The Sheffield Neurosurgical Unit also includes the National Centre for Stereotactic Radiosurgery which comprises two gamma knives, including a Lexsell Perfexion.
