Responsibilities:


Museum shops

  • Provide assistance in the daytoday acceptance, processing, pricing, replenishment and merchandising of shop stock with regular updates on deliveries and goods in, and accurately entering all stock information into the relevant software. Highlighting stock issues, inaccuracies and errors immediately and communicating to management and suppliers.
  • Responsible for ensuring stock is safely stored in the correct locations and monitored regularly to maintain accurate digital records, carrying out physical counting of large quantities of stock across multiple sites and locations.
  • You will be moving stock between locations both physically and on the Retail EPOS System. Locations of stock are internal and external to the main Museum building. Manual handling training will be provided.
  • Attend and comply with health & safety, security, GDPR & PCI compliance. general Museum procedures and policies training, escalating any noncompliance or concerns to management.

Online shop

  • Support the processing and fulfilment of customer and wholesale orders in a timely manner, adhering to all GDPR and PCI Compliance rules, utilising the necessary software for each type of process/order. GDPR & PCI Compliance training provided.

Other Duties

  • Nurture and maintain good relationships with key individuals, teams and companies for example, external suppliers and software providers, Security, Finance, IT
  • Answer office phone line and assist with customer queries; take and record messages and cascade where appropriate.


Any other duties that may be required from time to time commensurate with the duties of the job and any ad-hoc tasks as instructed by the Deputy Merchandising & Online Shop Manager or other member of Commercial management team.

Essential selection criteria:


  • Educated to at least GCSE standard or equivalent in English and Mathematics.
  • Excellent time management, high attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and manage workload effectively.
  • Exceptionally clear communication skills.
  • High level of IT literacy including retail systems experience, Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • The ability to multi task and work under pressure to tight deadlines in a demanding environment.
  • The ability to carry out the physical demands of the role (with or without adaptations).
  • The successful applicant will be expected to be fully flexible in their availability.
  • Hard working and happy to do what it takes to get the job done, with a "cando" attitude to solving problems.
  • Passionate about retail and interest in achieving sales targets

Desirable selection criteria:


  • Experience in a fastpaced retail environment.
  • An interest in art and archaeology.
