Reporting into the Head of Finance, the Finance Officer will initially be based in our vibrant Kettering office, with an option for hybrid working after a satisfactory probationary period.

Occasional travel to our centres in Corby and Wellingborough will be required.


About the role

  • Salary £15,333 £17,333 (FTE £23,000 £26,000)
  • Hours required 25 per week, across Monday to Thursday
  • 36 days holiday including bank holidays
  • Hybrid working after a satisfactory induction period

  • Contributory pension scheme with employer contribution of 5%

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Assisting in the maintenance of the charity's nominal ledger accounting system in accordance with the organisation's financial policies and procedures.
  • Processing and submission of payroll data monthly, carry out pension administration, in line with the charity's internal procedures and in line with statutory requirements under auto enrolment.
  • Conduct weekly bank reconciliations for all bank accounts in accordance with the charity's financial policies and procedures.
  • Reconciling balance sheet on a monthly basis fixed assets, prepayments, accrued income, deferred income, accruals and restricted funds.
  • Support the head of finance to produce monthly income and expenditure statements for SMT.
  • Preparing quarterly VAT return for head of finance.
  • Ensuring that the charity's accounts payable system is maintained.
  • Ensuring supplier invoices are authorised, and correctly coded.
  • Raising weekly supplier payment runs.
  • Ensuring that Teamwork's sales ledger is maintained.
  • Raising sales invoices, processing sales receipts.
  • Credit control.
  • Managing the petty cash balances across the three sites.
  • Clearing the suspense account on a monthly basis.
  • To assist the head of finance in the effective management and delivery of finance services in the organisation.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience:


  • Maths & English (level 4 or above) GCSE or O level grade A-C or CSE grade 1 (or equivalent qualification)
  • Purchase ledger and sales ledger experience
  • Sage accounting experience
  • Strong planning skills to enable deadlines to be met
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Strong skills and experience with Microsoft Office
  • Full UK driving license with own transport / ability to travel between the three centres when necessary

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

  • Qualified accountant (AAT or equivalent)
  • Charity accounting experience (donations, gift aid, partial exemption)
  • Previous experience using a purchase order system
  • Payroll experience
  • Ability to communicate and engage effectively with people with learning disabilities and autism
