Description

As a Train Planning Lead, you will report in to Head of Service Planning and your role will be responsible for leading strategy and delivery of timetable, unit diagrams, and train crew diagrams for service delivery.


Working closely with the Service Delivery lead and Ops and Events Manager to deliver improvements to train service and support all events and disruptive possessions with appropriate rail and alternative transport plans.

Key responsibilities:

This is a varied and challenging role, but here is a taste of what your day-to-day activities could include:

  • Develop and lead the training strategy across Service Planning ensuring sufficient planning resource is in place that is well trained, highly motivated and adaptable to the changing environment.
  • Support the Head of Service Planning by providing communication material and information to assist in the development of a communications strategy for future service changes
  • Lead the "bidding process" negotiations with Network Rail for the procurement of the necessary train slots to deliver our timetable.
  • Lead Northern representation in the negotiation of Engineering Access and Planning Rules.
  • In association with the Regional Directors, Head of Trains and Stations and Head of Operational Delivery determine the optimum traincrew strategy, develop deployment plans to achieve the agreed train service strategy.

About you:

You will be experienced in leading train planning activities with knowledge in implementing changes and working to tight timescales.

We're also looking for the following:

  • In depth knowledge of industry processes, timetabling techniques, route geography and capacity, traincrew agreements, and unit and traincrew diagramming procedures.
  • Excellent communicator both written and verbal
  • Ability to achieve results through influence and use of evidence based decisions
  • Experience of project management principles and ability to scope, prioritise and lead work
