The Duties of a Senior Healthcare Assistant at Abbey Wood Park have been listed below:

  • Assist residents with compassion to undertake normal activities of daily living whilst ensuring the privacy, dignity and human rights are respected for the patients and promote patient wellbeing.
  • Support residents with ADL stimulus and therapeutic activites
  • Help residents manage their emotions through deescalation and redirection techniques.
  • To follow care plans developed by the registered nurse or other health care professional and only undertake work which is within own competence and to identify any further work required to be undertaken by more senior staff.
  • Behaviour management
  • To demonstrate effective communication with residents, staff and other members of the team.
  • To maintain accurate records, which are confidential, contemporaneous, and legible, with all care given documented at the time. These records may be paper or IT based system.
  • Recognise and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individuals
  • Identify whether/when residents are at risk of harming themselves or others.
  • Recognise and understand escualtions in residents behaviour, sensory needs and arousal scale
  • Support the team with debrief meeings
  • To assist with the maintenance of units cleanliness.
  • Recognise when patients are in pain and discomfort and report to the nurse in charge
  • Provide reassurance, support to patients, carers and family
  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment by following any governance standards and management of Health and Safety Standards.
  • To comply with all infection control policies and guidance, attend relevant updates and report issues of concern to the manager.
  • To be responsible for using own initiative and be flexible when organising own workload on a day to day basis, which is often unpredictable in order to respond to the needs of the service.
  • To maintain and Preserve confidentiality at all times, and be aware of the Data Protection Act, Access to Health Records and Consent for Treatment.
  • Understand and adhere to all Trust policies, guidelines and procedures. In particular, Health and Safety, Fire Safety, Waste Management and Resuscitation policies to maintain a safe working environment for patients and staff
