PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
- To assist the Recycling Officer in the administration, organisation, promotion, consultation, installation, operation and monitoring of kerbside, estate and bring site recycling schemes [1] within Hackney.

The postholder will have lead responsibility and accountability for the following:
STRATEGIC THINKING AND PLANNING- Assist the Recycling Officer to implement the Council's Waste and Recycling Strategy, service development and the achievement of Council, departmental and customer objectives in regard to Recycling and Waste Minimisation.
- To assist in the implementation of action plans that translates the Council's overall strategic objectives into operational initiatives to ensure that the Council meets its statutory requirements and local targets with regard to Recycling and Waste Minimisation.
- To operate performance review mechanisms to monitor extent of progress and achievement of objectives and goals.

SERVICE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to promote new initiatives and developments in the field of waste minimisation and recycling in line with Council Policy and to identify future areas of activity.
- Ability to communicate with a wide range of people including staff, contractors, customers, representatives of organisations/community groups and the general public.
- Ability to prepare and initiate routine correspondence within the recycling area.
- Ability to analyse information both statistical and financial.
- Ability to maintain a wide range of record keeping systems both computerised and manual.
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of Equal Opportunities and Customer Care and its importance in the provision of services.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work Act.
- Ability to oversee projects including monitoring of performance standards.
- Knowledge of current environmental and recycling issues
- Ability to monitor performance standards of recycling services.
- Ability to prepare bids for government funding.
EXPERIENCE
- Experience of organising a high volume, varied workload without day to day supervision.
- Experience of liaison with a wide range of people.
- Experience of working in a Recycling or Waste Management Environment
Job Types:
Full-time, Temp to perm
Contract length: 8 months
Salary:
£17.00-£17.50 per hour
