This is an exciting opportunity to join the Laboratory IT team to support and develop the Pathology IT systems as part of a service level agreement.

The successful applicants will work with the Laboratory IT team to provide support for LIMS configurationchanges.

Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, Full time, 37.5 hours


Travel:

Job Purpose:


  • To be responsible for the organisation and management of Pathology IT systems in line with laboratories and trust IT strategies to ensure that they support effective patient care.
  • To provide audit support for all Pathology departments within working with the BI team to help to devise and implement complex searches of the Pathology databases.
  • To provide informed biomedical and technical knowledge and judgement in support of the Pathology IT systems, programmes and hardware in line laboratories and trust IT strategies, and lead in the assessment and resolution of complex IT problems.
  • Working as part of the Lab IT Team, the post will manage and be responsible for the daytoday IT operations of the laboratories.
  • To provide a link between the Lab IT and Trust IT services helping ensure that the laboratories strategies meets local Trust IT strategies

Duties

  • Responsible for the management and development of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) locally ensuring it meets Trust requirements while adhering to the IT strategies across Colchester, Ipswich and West Suffolk hospitals.
  • Be a first point of contact for IT issues related to Pathology
  • To be a system administrator for the Pathology IT systems and support system administration across the laboratories
  • To use specialist knowledge of biomedical scientist's practice and procedure and IT knowledge and experience to resolve complex problems associated with the running of the systems and delivery of results
  • Participate in 24/7 Out of hours support rota
  • Monitor and report on the performance of systems
  • Act as specialist lead for a specific discipline to support the resolution of issues and the development of IT systems across the laboratories
  • Assist with the delivery of comprehensive disaster recovery and business continuity plans for critical laboratories IT business systems and infrastructure, liaising with trust IT departments
  • Represent the Lab IT team at laboratory meetings and reporting back to issues to the team and escalate issues when required.
  • Be responsible for the escalation and communication relating to laboratory IT services which become unavailable
  • Be responsible for prioritising and organising workload to ensure continuity and efficiency of local services
  • Communicate complex information effectively to both technical and nontechnical staff
  • Negotiate with laboratory operational management, trust IT and suppliers with regards to service issue and developments.
  • Participate in team meetings, lab meetings and internal and external meetings when required
  • Liaise with trust IT teams to ensure effective and efficient services are maintained
  • Liaise with and cooperate with any audits carried out by internal and external auditors
  • Provide effective customer care
  • Escalate issues which impact on service delivery in a timely manner
  • Ensure that all system administration procedures are robust, auditable and updated on a regular basis
  • Support in the production of IT validation activities to maintain Laboratory accreditation
  • Support user acceptance testing by laboratory staff to ensure testing procedures meet accreditation standards
  • Support Disaster Recovery / Business continuity plans
  • Support the implementation and review of SOP's relating to IT
  • Implement policies and procedures for new systems and equipment
  • Follow the quality management procedures
  • Maintain the principles of patient confidentiality at all times and to ensure that this principle is upheld by all staff
  • Be responsible for individual's own CPD
