We are looking to recruit an individual to work with our clinical and operational leadership teams, to support the continuous development of the Orthopaedic Spinal service at Neath Port Talbot Hospital, incorporating the Health Board Values at the heart of our practice.

The Orthopaedic Clinical Matron based at Neath Port Talbot Hospital is responsible for the coordination of the clinical, managerial and educational requirements needed for the development of the unit with the vision of achieving Centre of excellence / Getting it right first time (GIRFT) Accreditation


They will form part of the Health Boards Senior Nursing / Operating Department Practitioner team responsible for the quality of the Health Boards clinical care and the safety of its patients are fundamental to its excellence.

Applicants will need relevant, clinical and management experience at senior level for this post. The post will require experience of change management, quality improvement, knowledge of day surgery, enhanced recovery and/or orthopaedic pathways.


The Orthopaedic Clinical Matron will provide direct leadership and act as a point of contact for advice and expertise relating to professional issues within the peri-operative care setting.

Acting as an expert in operating theatre practice the post-holder will clinically lead and manage the service ensuring the delivery of high quality, safe patient care.


The Orthopaedic clinical Matron is responsible for ensuring the consistent delivery of evidence based, safe and effective peri-operative care, infection prevention, safeguarding and patient flow standards within their defined area of responsibility.


The post holder will be responsible for the day to day management of the Theatre Managers within their areas of responsibility in line with the Health Board's values and behaviour framework of caring for each other, working together and always improving.


The Theatre Matrons will also be operationally responsible for the delivery of areas of practice outside of theatres but aligned to this service including pre assessment services and the pain management team.


This includes supporting systems for professional revalidation and performance management of Theatre Managers, Training & Development and the administration and supplies team ensuring managers that are accountable for quality, safe care.

Usual working week is Monday - Friday, flexibility is required to meet the demands of the role.
