Description

The purpose of the role is to support in delivering our Product Assurance framework that includes our serious complaints investigation process and our analytical assurance programme.

You will manage the day-to-day processing of customer complaints across the Sainsbury's business, ensuring complaints are fully investigated and satisfactorily resolved to prevent recurrence.

In addition, you will support in the coordination of our analytical assurance programme and support with investigations of out of specification test results, working with internal stakeholders, external experts and laboratory partners.

This role plays a key part in providing valuable product assurance data, insight and support into our category teams to drive continuous improvement and reduce risks within our supply base.

You will be responsible for identifying improvements to our core processes to drive efficiencies in our ways of working.

You will champion the relationship with our stores, the careline and our executive office and be involved in supporting the training of those teams.

You will need to be a great communicator, as you could be responding to serious incidents that can impact our teams on a wide scale.


You will also support the reporting of our product assurance test results to external leading industry bodies such as the food industry intelligence network (FIIN) and the Pesticides Residue Committee (PRiF).


As a Product Assurance Technologist, you'll:

  • Ensure that all customer complaints are investigated and responded to accurately, effectively & to a consistent high standard and to arrange or perform, as necessary, appropriate expert analysis of samples to ensure they are resolved effectively and timely. Work collaboratively with internal/ external stakeholders and suppliers to obtain clear responses for our customers.
  • Escalate and ensure the immediate handover of any serious safety or other product complaint of a potentially brand damaging nature to the relevant Sainsbury's colleagues or Suppliers.
  • Support in the training of Store colleagues, the Careline & Executive office colleagues on complaint issues.
  • Support in the coordination of our analytical assurance programme including management of adhoc testing requests from our category teams and the coordination of direct growers' pesticide sampling.
  • Supporting with the daytoday management of our laboratory partners.
  • Communicate red out of specification testing results to the category technical teams and support in investigating the root cause of those results.
  • Identify improvements to our core processes to drive efficiencies in our ways of working.
  • Complete our external reporting of testing results to industry bodies including the food industry intelligence network (FIIN) and the Pesticides Residue Committee (PRiF) when required.
  • Ensure the Analytical Assurance programme admin including the manuals and category packs are accurate & up to date.
  • Provide specialist knowledge, excellent service and reduced admin burden enabling the Technical team in the business units add value.
  • Proactively engage with internal/ external stakeholders and our supply base to drive compliance.
  • Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to identify centres of excellence for specific knowledge and insight e.g., advances in testing methods.
  • Support the Central Technical Reporting teams to drive improvements to our data, insights and reporting for our Product Assurance data and provide commentary and insight to our periodic and quarterly governance structure. Drive the consistency and compliance to our product assurance requirements and KPI's in a simple way that is built into our governance.

Our Technical team would love to see:

  • Degree level or equivalent in a science discipline or equivalent experience
  • Understanding of technical and manufacturing experience including HACCP and BRC
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a compliance role or technical role either in the supply base or at a retailer or at an analytical laboratory.
  • Good judgement, drive and influence and a clear targeted personal development plan to enhance these areas.
  • Delivery of KPI's and Sainsbury's strategy targets as defined within personal development review targets. Targets completed within set timescales for category.
  • Be a role model for accuracy and right first time in all aspects of product compliance.
  • Deliver technical excellence and attention to detail in all tasks.
  • Effective due diligence management.
  • Effective planning and prioritisation.
  • Selfmotivated and solutions orientated with excellent communication skills.
