An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Speech and Language Therapist to join the Offender Health Directorate working at HMP Fosse Way.

HMP Fosse Way is set to open in mid-2023 and is a Category C Resettlement Prison.

HMP Fosse Way will house 1,715 prisoners and focus on the rehabilitation of offenders and their reintegration back into society.

It consists of 7 House blocks across 4 floors.

There is a dedicated healthcare suite located in the main building with also additional multi use rooms across the establishment including rooms for groups or 1-2-1's.


You will assist in the identification and support of people with Neurodevelopmental Conditions, including Autism, Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity) Disorder and Learning /Intellectual Disabilities, Speech Language and Communication Needs, in your designated prison establishment and across prisons, supporting complex differential diagnosis.


The role requires a high level of clinical and professional expertise to support healthcare and prison staff to understand and make reasonable adjustments for the communication needs of men in prison with neurodiverse needs.

You will be working within specialist multi-disciplinary services for Offender Health.

You will work within your base prison mental health team, who provide mental health assessment and treatment for adult male prisoners, including those with neurodevelopmental conditions.


You will be a member of the Neurodiversity Team of practitioners who provide healthcare to neurodiverse prisoners across the Offender Health Directorate and will be required to support Neurodiversity Practitioners working in other prisons in the East Midlands.

The role also demands collaborative working with mental health, substance misuse and primary care in the prison and community and with colleagues working across the prison system in education, residential, safer custody, psychology and offender management.
