Senior Staff
Reporting to:

Deputy Manager, Home Manager
QCF/NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care essential
ROLE
- The post holder is responsible for assisting in the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.
- Is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision. To work as part of a team to provide a professional and caring service whilst maintaining a high standard of patient care.
- Expected to supervise inexperienced staff.
- To have responsibility when on duty to liaise with relatives, friends, General Practitioner, District Nurse or other health professionals, on the condition of the residents in the appropriate manner.
- To organise the storage, ordering and administration of medication to residents as required following the 'Policy for control of drugs and medicines in Cartref Homes'.
KEY TASKS
- To represent the Cartref Organisation at all times.
- To behave in a responsible, polite manner at all times.
- Wear uniform correctly.
- To be aware of own limitations.
- Answer call bells, front door. Telephones and greet all visitors in polite, friendly and professional manner.
- To maintain the highest possible standards of care, whilst preserving the rights, dignity and confidence of the residents.
- To organise with the Home Manager and Deputy Manager, the planning and evaluation of patient care.
- To implement the plan of care for each individual resident and where appropriate teach and coordinate other members of the care team.
- To review the effectiveness of the care provided and initiate any action the may be required.
- To maintain accurate patient records and documentation, and be able to report verbally as well as in writing.
- To maintain confidentiality in respect of all matters pertaining to the Cartref Homes, in accordance with the policy.
- To ensure the best use is made of available manpower at all times.
- To ensure the home is maintained in good order, supplies are adequate and that equipment is safe. Any inadequacies should be reported to the Manager/Resources Manager/Buildings Manager.
- Respond to any complaints from residents or relatives, report complaints and solutions to Manager
- To help promote as much personal and physical independence and choice as possible, in the activities of daily living undertaken by the residents.
- To help maintain a stimulating and attractive environment for the residents.
- To be part of the rota for providing on call to the home at night for advice.
- To ensure that all care staff are adequately supervised in the following tasks during their allocation and that they are given ample opportunity to gain appropriate experience.
ii. Bed making.
iii. Bathing residents.
iv. Assisting residents with dressing and undressing.
v. Care of hair, oral care, pressure areas and nails as requested.
vi. Maintain tidiness and cleanliness in all rooms e.g., residents rooms, sluice, communal areas etc.
- Be aware of hazards in working environment to residents and staff and follow procedures on the same e.g. fire, health and safety etc.
- Report and breakages or equipment requiring repairs to the Buildings Manager.
- Undertake required training.
HEALTH & SAFETY
Compliance with Cartref Policy concerning the 1974 Health & Safety Act, 1994 Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Act and any subsequent legislation, thus ensuring a safer environment for residents and staff at the Cartref Homes.

These should be read and signed at the commencement of employment
