Glider Maintenance Trainer Controller

Full Time, Permanent

£31,343 per annum plus benefits


You will be providing support and coaching to our maintenance personnel and aircrew within 2 Flying Training School (2FTS) ensuring they are working and operating in accordance with our safety culture and regulations and carrying out associated roles and duties as directed by the business needs.


You will be based at RAF Syerston and will be required to satisfy the regular UK-wide mobile requirements of the role.


Main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Lesson preparation and the production of training support material ensuring compliance, statutory and regulatory training requirements are met through regular competency checks.
  • Line management of individual employees or a small team (including but not limited to; personnel development, discipline, welfare and leave), leadership, management, supervision and control of the training team.
  • Induction, initial and continuation training of Glider Maintenance Engineering and Support Personnel.
  • The participation in development and training of apprentices and others in line with the company succession plans.
  • Initial and Continuation training of CGS and nominated VGS aircrew to carry out onaircraft maintenance (Includes working one weekend away from Syerston per month).
  • The participation at the Annual VGS Technical Officers' symposium which includes delivery of briefings and instruction as necessary (one weekend per year). Annual QESO competency checks and engineering updates.
  • Maintaining records of all training and authorisations.
  • Carry out associated duties as directed by the business needs, such as but not limited to; audits, completion of Aviation Safety procedures (In-Forms, DASORs etc), Narrative Fault Reporting (MOD Form 760 series), Unsatisfactory Feature Report for Military Air Environment Technical Information (MOD Form 765), Technical Queries, aircraft F700 Quality Checks and Quality procedures.
  • Provide support to Engineering Support Controller to maintain awareness of management process for Narrative Fault Reporting (F760) and Unsatisfactory Feature Report of an Air publication submissions (F765).
  • Management of Risk Assessments.
  • Arranging, managing and completing a program of Planned General Inspections (PGIs), to ensure all work areas at Syerston are covered annually. Attend and brief PGI progress at any Compliance Review Meetings.
  • Assistance and support to engineering investigations as directed by the Chief Engineer.
  • Assist Serco Regional QHSE Manager and liaise as point of contact for support to 2FTS Headquarters Functional Safety Team for engineering, quality, environmental and H&S matters addressed through H&S Working Groups and as directed by Chief Engineer.
  • Provide event coordination to engineering supported events to meet customer requirement and contractual obligations such as, but not limited to annual National Air and Space Camp.
  • Be capable to carry out the responsibilities and duties of Certifying Staff in accordance with the MOE and other relevant regulations to be able to facilitate training of contract and customer certifying staff.
  • Assist the Business Support Manager with itinerary and on site POC for all Work Experience Projects.
  • Achieving and maintaining authorisations and currency.
  • Remain current with all amendments to company standard operating procedures and all other relevant technical data provided.
  • Optimising output to meet the business needs and demonstrate commitment to Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement.
  • Comply with all relevant Health, Safety and Environment regulations and exercise a Duty of Care promoting a positive approach towards workplace health and safety.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Aircraft Airframe and/or Propulsion Mechanic/Technician (City and Guilds Aeronautical Engineering Parts 1 and 2 or NVQ equivalent or higher qualification.
  • Be appropriately experienced and have completed, as a minimum, MOD Phase 2 technical training; or hold an appropriate category A, B1, B2 or C licence in compliance with European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Annex III (Part 66); or be appropriately experienced and have completed suitable civilian training.
  • Demonstrate having held authority or potential to sign for duplicate inspections (civilian) or independent inspections (military).
