Purpose:
- Maintaining the cleanliness of the school's external areas including roads, paths, channels, gutters, waste bins and signage
- Assisting in the delivery of the school's waste management and winter maintenance strategies
- Distribution of school parcels and laundry
Duties:
- Manual sweeping/clearing of roads and footpaths across site
- Collection and disposal of waste, litter and recyclable materials
- Inspection and clearing of gullies, and low level gutters
- Cleaning of external waste bins, sills and doors etc
- Weed control
- Assisting with winter maintenance clearing snow and ice
- Operating small plant and driving school vehicles
- Distribution of parcels and laundry on site
- To follow and actively promote school policies
- To comply with any reasonable request from the Domestic Services Manager or Team Leaders to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in this job description.
In order to meet the high standards expected of a member of staff in our School, the Bursar is seeking to employ a person with the following qualities, experience, skills and abilities.
Essential Requirements:
- Ability to communicate and interact well with staff and colleagues
- Ability to work using own initiative
- Ability to carry out all aspects of the role to a high standard at all times
- A current and clean driving licence
Desirable Requirements
- Weed spraying qualification
- Knowledge of COSHH regulations, safe storage and working practices
- **The following training courses are considered to be a minimum requirement for the post and will be planned as appropriate to support the role, responsibilities and duties undertaken:
- Health and safety
- Fire safety awareness
- Lifting and handling
- Working at height
- Child protection and safeguarding
- COSHH
- Weed spraying qualification

staff may be required to carry out such other duties as the Headmaster or Bursar may reasonably require from time to time.
Support
The staff member will be appraised by their Line Manager but routine communication will be on going and professional development.
Appointment Terms, Conditions and Benefits
Type:
Permanent contract
Probationary Period: 6 months
Working Hours:37 hours per week
Hourly rate:
National Minimum Wage
Notice:
During the probationary period by School and Employee is one week in writing. Post probationary is 1 month.
Paid holidays:
Pro-rated equivalent of 20 days per annum plus bank.
Holiday year runs 1st September to 31st August.
As a Boarding School, some public holidays (usually May Day) are a normal working day and a lieu day can be taken in School holiday working weeks for this
Pension:
In accordance with current pension legislation, Support Staff are automatically enrolled in The Pensions Trust Flexible Retirement Plan scheme unless they choose to opt out.
