Document Controller - Energy - Cannock

Would you like to join the UK's Best Big Company as awarded by Best Companies? J. Murphy and Sons Ltd are currently recruiting for a Document Controller to join our award-winning team. Our team is known for its extensive in-house expertise and continual drive to innovate within the industry. The Document Controller will support the Engineering Design Team undertaking designs across multiple HV Power Systems Projects. The role is to work alongside the Design Engineers to coordinate and manage the technical documentation.

Murphy & Sons has designed, constructed, and commissioned projects for clients such as National Grid, SSE and Ørsted, on both transmission and distribution networks within the Energy sector.


What you will be doing:


  • Creation of drawing attributions including input of Metadata for new and existing drawings.
  • Setting up of document workflows within the Document Management System
  • Assisting Engineers in document management through the document review processes.
  • Working alongside the Engineers to coordinate with our Equipment Suppliers and Design Subcontractors to ensure the obtaining and exchange of all applicable design information is obtained to facilitate the design in line project programs.
  • Undertake checks and audits on supplier and design subcontractor drawings to ensure that their document control quality is being correctly maintained.
  • Working with Suppliers, Design Subcontractors and Murphy Design Management functions to coordinate the distribution of design packages and technical documents to the client and to our construction sites.
  • Work with Engineers to produce and maintain Contract Drawing Lists.
  • Work with Engineers to identify and obtain existing client drawings and documentation for inclusion within our designs.
  • Managing Subcontractors to undertake scanning of design drawings throughout the design process.
  • Assisting Engineers by occasionally undertaking aspects of drafting using AutoCAD.

Who are we looking for?

  • Experience of document control of technical documents, preferably within a design office environment or on significant construction projects.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of operating IT systems, i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Electronic Document Management Systems such as Aconex, ProjectWise etc.
  • Working knowledge of Web based document management and share systems.
  • Experience of the Infrastructure / Civil / Engineering / Construction industry
