Overall purpose of role:

  • To support the Welding and Materials department manager to plan and execute the fabrication and welding of various safety critical light, medium, heavy assemblies reading directly from engineering drawings to written procedures and verbal instructions by MAG and TIG process.
  • Assist teams in developing safe and effective fabrication methods for new products and making improvements to existing fabrication processes from interpretation of detailed engineering drawings.
  • Welding in accordance with written welding procedure specifications and instructions and assisting the welding manager in developing and qualifying procedures for new projects.
  • Responsible for visual selfinspection of production welds to meet ISO 5817 quality acceptance standards, minimum Level C, in a production environment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Working in a dynamic and varied organisation producing components of high safety rating helping to enhance the expansion of the fabrication and welding department, completing existing fabrication types and introduction of new products safely and efficiently with a focus on high weld and dimensional quality through the design development and execution stages.
  • Welding sheet, plate and tubular Butt Welds and Fillet welds typically ranging between 2mm to approximately 75mm thickness in carbon and stainlesssteel fabrications.
  • Additional welding of various and pressure pipework direct from drawings and by fitup against fabricated structures, predominantly by TIG welding.
  • Achieve and maintain production welding certification to ISO and ISO 14732 standards through regular scheduled testing and on demand for new products.
  • Read and interpret engineering welding fabrication drawings, symbols, geometric tolerances, and fitup and fully weld various fabricated assemblies in accordance with drawings.
  • Use of various measurement equipment and alignment fixtures / setting systems to achieve interim and final tolerances for structures to drawing.
  • Understanding and working to written welding procedure specifications, work instructions and acceptance standards and following verbal directions.
  • Maintaining and monitoring welding and ancillary equipment and assist in troubleshooting functional issues or call for repairs or justify replacement on a regular and daily basis.
  • 100% visual inspection of all production weld deposits in accordance with ISO 581 To assist the generation or modification of supplementary instructions, procedures and fixtures as required, and participate with the development of continuous product and process improvement programs.
  • Always maintain a safe and tidy work environment and safe performance of operations. Adhere to all Health & Safety regulations and company standards as required.
  • Use of, hand, power and air tools, thermal cutting / heating equipment and cranes / lifting equipment.
  • Use of computer to access drawings and instructions.
  • Complete records of production and quality documentation as required.
Additional responsibilities.

  • Setting, programming, and operating fully mechanised production welding equipment and power sources and manual welding as required for various volume production jobs.
  • To perform production testing and any supplementary production inspections, repairs or assist in other assigned duties as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot opportunities for improvement and root cause analysis, assisting with implementation and validation of corrective actions.
  • Willingness to train and flexibility to perform job tasks within the company aligned with the primary role and in additional work areas other than welding as requested by the company.

Experience.


Essential:

Advantageous:

  • Experience in welding of stainlesssteel fabrications.
  • TIG welding of fabricated assemblies.
  • TIG welding of pipework, low or high pressure.

Skills:


Essential:

  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and geometric tolerances.
  • Use of measurement equipment and inspection of incoming parts, setups and finished components.
  • Use of hand and power fabrication and preparation tools and modular fixturing.
  • Competent in use of lifting equipment and overhead cranes.
  • Competent in use of Oxy-Fuel and Plasma heating and cutting equipment.
  • Attention to detail and accepts personal responsibility for completing allocated tasks correctly.
  • Ability to assist in developing best fabrication practices and communicate process improvements.
  • Good eyesight.
