This is an exciting opportunity for someone to join the Colchester Hospital 'Safeguarding and Complex Health Team' which is comprised of:

  • Safeguarding Adults
  • Safeguarding Children & the Unborn
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Dementia
  • Children & Young Persons Mental Health
We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and innovative individual with experience of safeguarding adults.

Our team offers a Mon-Fri 9-5pm service.


The successful post holder will be a highly visible experienced practitioner, providing specialist knowledge, advice and clinical expertise to all staff in the hospital in all areas of Safeguarding Adults.


You will be a member of the ESNEFT Safeguarding Families & Complex Health Team and will enable a holistic approach to the care of adults at risk of abuse/neglect in delivering safeguarding advice, support, training and supervision.


Along with being responsible for providing effective and timely flow of information between the hospital/community and other agencies as appropriate.

The Safeguarding Families & Complex Health Team have a robust audit programme which the post holder will participate in.

They will also be assisting in the co-ordination and contribute to inter-professional training in safeguarding adults across the Trust and will be expected to deputise for the Head of Safeguarding Families as required.


  • To be a highly visible senior practitioner, providing specialist knowledge and advice expertise to all staff in Colchester Hospital in all areas of Safeguarding Adults.
  • To promote the safeguarding of adults at risk within Colchester & Tendring Community.
  • To promote high quality and evidence based improvements in service delivery
  • To overcome staff and public barriers to understanding around the area of safeguarding adults at risk including domestic abuse and the assessment of mental capacity.
  • To promote the message that 'safeguarding is everyone's business', sharing best practice and lessons learnt.
  • To support the Local Authorities and other partners in their delivery of their statutory safeguarding responsibilities and priorities
  • Participate in relevant internal and external working groups/projects/audits, services and initiatives to provide, information and analytical advice and expertise.
  • To work collaboratively with the multiagency partners
  • To deputise for the Head of Safeguarding Families as required.

Professional Practice-Safeguarding underpins work in all aspects of this role

  • Promote autonomy in practice encouraging community staff to become confident in decision making regarding the Safeguarding of Adults, further developing their skill's which will improve the delivery of care.
  • Identify concerns and identify areas for improvements as required
  • To maintain and develop own clinical expertise and follow East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust Safeguarding Procedures in respect of the safety and welfare of Adults.
  • To actively participate in regular safeguarding supervision in line with the Organisation's supervision policy.
  • To participate in internal and external Safeguarding Adult Reviews/Domestic Homicide Reviews/Independent Management Reviews with the support of the Head of Safeguarding Families.
  • To complete statutory requests for information/investigations/reports such as Channel Panel/Section 42 enquiries.
  • To participate in adult safeguarding meetings eg Strategy; Professionals; safeguarding case conferences as required.
  • Support operational teams in the development and completion of actions plans and implementation of learning from safeguarding incidents and investigations.
  • Support the completion of Safeguarding Families & Complex Health Team reports.
