As a senior post holder in CDDFT you will be required to be an inspirational leader and great line manager


This includes:

  • Promote the Trusts core values of care, quality, respect, leadership and achievement by adherence to the behavioral competencies as detailed on the Trusts website/intranet site. Put delivery of high quality services at the forefront of what you do Ensure that excellence in communication and engagement of staff, service users and stakeholders is at the centre of everything you do. Critical to this is effective communications with the front line, listening and communicating messages from the front line up to the Executive Directors and the Trust Board.


Challenge the status quo and lead on the development of workforce plans that are cognisant of future developments, new ways of working and new technologies.

Establish excellent working relationships with clinicians at all levels within the Care Group and across organisations to enable transformation and delivery on all areas of performance.

Lead and support transformation and integration of services using lean methodologies across pathways and services both internally and with external agencies eg.

local authorities) to achieve improved outcomes for patients and service users, increase productivity and reduce costs.


Lead on and be proactive in ensuring that the health and well-being agenda is considered in the development of and evident in delivery of all services.

Demonstrate a can do approach to problem solving and delivery of services. Ensure that robust governance is embedded in your area of responsibility. At all times demonstrate behaviors that are consistent with your role as a senior leader.


Main duties and responsibilities In conjunction with the Head of Midwifery disseminate and implement national and local developments and guidance relating to midwifery.

To maintain effective communication systems between all staff ensuring a positive working environment is achieved.

Identify untoward incidences and link with the Senior Clinical Governance Lead to ensure the incidences are reported, reviewed and findings disseminated in a timely fashion.

Provide problem solving clinical leadership and promote this approach with other staff.

Work with senior staff in orientating and developing new members of staff.

Positively challenge ways of working and thinking to support and develop new ways of working Lead on the delivery of all aspects of performance including quality of services, patient experience, access, finance, governance, HR and organisational development.

This extends beyond your direct area of influence to include leadership across other associated services and Care Groups. Ensure a robust appraisal system is in place to achieve annual appraisals for all staff.

Be vigilant that the working conditions environment, comply with the Health & Safety at work act. In the absence of the Head of Midwifery acts up as required. To act in role of senior nurse/site manager when required. Ensure streamline mechanisms are in place for the replacement of staff vacancies.

Assist in the process of recruitment and retention of staff to senior level. Ensure that all staff are provided with the opportunity to develop skills to reach their maximum potential. Facilitate a family friendly environment whilst maintaining service needs. To support and develop new ways of working to continually improve the quality of the service.

Ensure staff views are valued and acted upon. Ensure staff receive key information in an accurate and timely manner. Act as an advisor to fellow Midwives and support senior Midwives with complex human resource issues. Facilitate the provision of an environment conducive to the learning needs of all staff including students.


Provide general management advice and support for staff at the base site and community as required Attend meetings relevant to the base site and community, eg estates, infection control.

Act as the point of contact for other departments, eg. Hotel services. Work closely with the Clinical / Service Lead for Gynaecology when site issues relate to gynaecology services.

Participate in staff appraisals, formulation of Personal Development Plans and succession planning for all staff. Act as an advisor to fellow midwives and gynaecology nurses for bed and staffing issues. Support senior midwives with complex human resource issues, eg. Long term sickness, recruitment and retention, investigations potentially leading to disciplinary action.
