We have an exciting opportunity to join our forward thinking and supportive team and help children in Sandwell to find their voice.


We are looking to recruit a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to lead our AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) team and support our Speech and Language Therapists to develop their skills further in this area.


The role will be to support children and young people in Sandwell to develop their skills so that they can express their opinions, make choices and communicate with family and friends.


We are expecting you will significant experience of working with children with AAC needs and have a knowledge of high and low tech AAC, Makaton and Intensive Interaction as well as other evidence based AAC approaches.


You will:

- assess and treat children and young people with complex communication needs
- liaise closely with CAMHS, Paediatricians, education and other health colleagues
- provide second opinions to other Speech and Language Therapists in the team
- provide feedback to the paediatric SLT meeting on the AAC pathway and any developments
- lead the local AAC team (Speech and Language Therapists and assistants)
