As a Counsellor you will join our occupational health and wellbeing teams and provide psychological health and wellbeing services to the workforce.


We are looking for someone who is highly motivated, passionate about psychological health and wants to make a real difference to the Police service in the South Yorkshire community.


In addition to a competitive salary, this role attracts a market rate supplement of up to £40, 950 (which is reviewed on an annual basis).

As a Counsellor you will be responsible for:

  • Delivering psychological therapy services
  • Conducting Psychological Health Surveillance (PHS)
  • Planning, prioritising and managing your own caseload

Skills and experience:


  • Must have a core practitioner
    qualification in individual counselling or psychotherapy (minimum diploma level) and a minimum of 3 years relevant post qualifying skill and experience to practice competently and safely.
  • You will have additional qualifications and experience in at least_ two_ other core modalities which are underpinned by trauma focussed and, solution focused approaches to therapy.
  • The ability to evaluate your work within an ethical framework and resolve conflicts and ethical dilemmas safely. The ability to establish and maintain appropriate professional boundaries is required.

  • Experienced in undertaking initial and ongoing assessments and be competent in conceptualising and formulating ways of working with clients. You will have the ability to risk assess, manage, and make decisions about appropriate pathways of care informed by principles of safeguarding.
  • The ability to use team working skills whilst working with others, incorporating equality awareness and diversity in professional relationships.
  • Committed to personal development, selfawareness, and supervision to ensure safe, ethical standards of practice.
  • You will be a registered member of a professional, organisation for counselling and psychotherapy good practice i.e., the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) or equivalent.
