Wood is currently recruiting for a Principal Consultant position to be a key member of our growing Asset and Operations Consulting business.

This broad and flexible role will deliver inventive, low investment, high return studies from process yield and energy improvements to logistics optimisation, as well as managing studies and opportunity initiatives.

The role will fit within our Process Consulting group.

This global, in-house consultancy focuses on advising clients, investors and asset owners on making the right investment decisions and enhancing the value of existing assets.

This team has the skills, experience, and creativity to add value from multidiscipline asset assessment and optimisation activities, as well as taking projects through conceptual phases to the establishment of a robust basis of design in the pre-FEED stage.


Responsibilities

  • Execute and provide technical support to studies within Wood's Process Consulting Group
  • Work closely with customers to understand their needs and produce studies and services to meet these needs
  • Coach and mentor less experienced staff
  • Effectively collaborate across the organisation to utilise specialist skills and knowledge
  • Identify issues and propose solutions using innovative and novel solutions.
  • Complete technical study work to a high standard with mínimal supervision
  • Identify deficiencies and improvements to established Wood methods, standards and data
  • Develop longterm relationships with clients through collaborative engagements
  • If required, contribute to conceptual and feasibility studies, and preFEED stages of consulting/projects work, including technoeconomic analysis and specialist support.

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Due to the range of studies and areas covered, previous experience is required in some of the below areas:
  • Low cost yield or energy improvement of process plant, either as consultant or in operating role
  • Tank, jetty and terminal operations, assessment or optimisation
  • Operating plant process engineering and/or production planning/scheduling experience, ideally in downstream
  • Operations management
  • Licensor or operating site experience in downstream technologies
  • Use of simulation or discrete event modelling of existing facilities
  • Technical due diligence assessment of process assets
  • Ability to understand client needs and adapt approaches accordingly. Capability to explain complex concepts and reasoning to clients
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual thinking skills, ability to manage own work and the work of others, plus a strong customer focus and teamworking skills
  • Readily adaptable with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to analyse logical problems or problems with several relationships, systematically break a complex task into more manageable parts and identify critical components
  • Clarity in reporting and choice of reporting methods
