    Senior Grid Connection Engineer/Consultant

    We are working with the number one Grid Connection Consultancy in the UK, renowned for its exceptional quality and customer relationships. They collaborate with major clients within the sector to achieve decarbonisation and economic growth through optimal grid connections at minimal cost and risk.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Client Support: Assist clients in finding suitable network solutions and projects, ensuring they receive maximum value.
    2. Feasibility Studies: Conduct thorough feasibility studies for clients to identify potential project outcomes.
    3. Connection Offer Reviews: Evaluate and provide expert feedback on connection offers to ensure alignment with client goals.
    4. Grid Connection Due Diligence: Perform detailed assessments of grid connections to mitigate risks and optimize project success.
    5. Grid Connection Optimisation: Develop strategies to maximise the efficiency of grid connections and reduce costs.
    6. Project Progression Risk Reviews: Identify and address potential risks that may impact project progression.
    7. Grid Connections Strategy Development: Collaborate with the Connections Manager to develop effective grid connections strategies for both distribution and transmission generation demand clients, public sector clients, and commercial/industrial sectors.
    8. Service Development: Identify opportunities for new projects and develop services to meet client needs.
    9. Fee Scoping Work and Proposals: Support the development of fee proposals and scoping work to ensure accurate client expectations.
    10. Influencing/Opposition Lobbying: Engage with BEIS, Ofgem, and network operators (NOs) to influence policy and regulations beneficial to clients.
    11. Negotiation and Relationship Building: Foster strong relationships with network engineers and Connections teams to ensure seamless collaboration.
    12. Horizon Scanning and Knowledge Sharing: Stay up-to-date with industry trends and share knowledge internally to drive innovation and best practices.

    Requirements:

    1. Qualifications: Master's degree or higher in a relevant engineering subject.
    2. Consultancy Experience: Proven consultancy experience with excellent commercial skills.
    3. Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of GB Distribution and Transmission networks, as well as the challenges faced by Network Operators and their customers.
    4. Guidance on Connection Processes: Significant experience providing guidance on connection processes and regulations for both generation and demand.
    5. Techical Due Diligence: Experience delivering technical due diligence on projects at acquisition stage.
    6. Project Steering: Confidence steering projects through the connections process, as a technical advisor or owner's engineer.
    7. Scoping Consultancy Services: Experience in scoping consultancy services and preparing fee proposals.

    Desirable:

    1. Industry Experience: Industry experience in the energy sector.
    2. Design Principles: Knowledge of design principles for renewable energy projects.
    3. Regulation and Charging: Interest in electricity regulation and charging principles.
    4. Power System Software: Knowledge of power system software packages such as PowerFactory, PSS/E or IPSA.
