Reports to:

The Head of Department/Director will report to the CEO.

Job Overview:

The Head of Department will be responsible for dealing with delegated work within their own areas of competence and achieving performance targets as set by the Company.

The Head of Department will provide expert legal supportand advice to clients. Also, he/she will be responsible for offering support to other Head of Departments and/or Directors. He/she will be responsible for dealing with their own caseload and with clients.

Furthermore, he/she will be expected to train and mentormore junior staff members and positively promote quality of service to clients, raising the quality level and creating new business for the Company whenever possible.


Purpose/Main Objectives:
To support Company decisions, carrying out any actions required. To provide any support required by Head of Departments and/or Directors. To act on behalf of Heads of Department as required.

To be alert when actingfor clients of other legal services they may require and to refer clients to other departments within the firm when it is appropriate.


Responsibilities & Duties:


  • Deal with delegated cases as required, reporting progress to the Directors
  • Deal with all aspects of employment, commercial and public sector work within own and the Company's competencies, including reviewing all such case files
  • Fully prepare for all aspects of litigation related to areas of work; including, but not limited to, issuing proceedings/defences, drafting pleadings and particulars, drafting/preparing witness statements, preparation for and conduct of hearings (at allstages) and liaising with and instructing counsel where appropriate.
  • Liaise with clients and other professionals (e.g. barristers), in a prompt and professional manner; coordinating the work of all parties involved
  • Advise and negotiate with clients and other professionals to secure agreed objectives
  • Research law and analyse documents to ensure the accuracy of advice and adherence to applicable procedure
  • Always act in a trustworthy and confidential manner, with integrity and sensitivity
  • Ensure quality of service levels in compliance with Lexcel, SRA, and any other applicable Service Level Agreement or other compliance requirements.
  • Follow internal methods, policies, and procedures as set by the Office Manual and the Company's policies and procedures
  • Remain informed of changes in any area of specialism, such that service quality is maintained and legal advice is uptodate
  • Carry out file reviews as appropriate
  • Maintenance of diaries & time recording
  • Work as part of a team and give concise and reasonable instructions
  • Carry out other administrative duties such as billing, invoicing, time recording, compile litigation bundles, dealing with correspondence, collect and organise evidence; calculate claims for damages, compensation, maintenance etc,
  • Network with clients and build valuable relationships in a way that enhances the company's reputation and cultivate new business opportunities
  • Utilise the Company's case management system
  • Any other duties as reasonably directed by the Directors

Relationships:


  • Internal: Supportive to the Directors, Heads of Department, and colleagues
  • External: Promoting the Company wherever possible through PR and quality of service

Skills & Qualifications:


Essential:

Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with 10 years PQE:

  • Previous experience of dealing with relevant department cases
  • Highly organised and flexible, with the prioritisation skills to simultaneously manage multiple cases and tasks, while complying with important deadlines
  • Productivity in a performancedriven environment
  • Superior legal research skills
  • Good data maintenance skills for GDPR compliance
  • Strong client relationship skills; with the ability to establish positive, cooperative and professional relationships, both internal and external
  • Be highly trustworthy, discreet, and use good judgement
  • Able to work well under pressure, without sacrificing a high attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Good commercial awareness and analytical skills
  • Selfstarter and the ability to work autonomously
  • Proactive and eager to learn
  • Selfawareness and a commitment to using feedback to learn and develop as a professional
  • Ability to read, digest and process complex and/or substantial amounts of information into data that can be used in a legal case
  • Computer literacy

Desirable:


  • Good working knowledge of commercial property law and practice
  • Joining the Company with your own client following
