The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a research team at Newcastle University as a research assistant/associate on a qualitative project around dementia risk prediction.

Elizabeth Ford). There is also a member of the public (Ms. Lindsey Brown) on the research team. The project also has a dedicated patient and public advisory group to assist throughout the study.The project is a qualitative study - "Dementia Risk Prediction in Areas of
Social Deprivation:
Views of Key Stakeholders" - and will involve interviewing patients recruited from primary care and also primary care staff.
This study is funded by a National Institute for Health and Care Research Three Schools Dementia Research Programme grant.
As the lead institution for this study, the role will require you to lead on the recruitment, data collection and analysis around an important topic in dementia research.
Dementia risk prediction is an expanding and evolving area but it is important that we obtain the views of those who will either use a risk prediction tool or who will be affected by the outcome.
We are also interested in how social deprivation may influence the needs of individuals in this area.
The postholder will be expected to work to tight deadlines and manage their time well in order to meet the study milestones.
This post is a part time (0.80 WTE) fixed term till 31st March 2024.
The successful applicant will be appointed on a suitable point on the common payscale for research assistants/associates based on their experience and qualifications.

Key Accountabilities
- To take a leading role in the overall conduct of the study including data collection and analysis. Although working under the general guidance of a Principal Investigator (Dr. Eugene Tang), the postholder will contribute ideas, including enhancements to the technical or methodological aspects of their studies, thus providing substantial 'added value'
- Working with colleagues across institutions and also our patient advisory panel to deliver on project milestones
- Contribute to the writing up of their research for publication and dissemination, either through seminar and conference presentations or through publications
- Present research findings, either at conferences or through publications in reputable outlets appropriate to the discipline
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Ability to work well as part of a team and rapidly acquire new skills
- Qualitative research experience including data collection, analysis and dissemination
- High level of analytical and problemsolving capability
- Ability to communicate complex information with clarity and to encourage the commitment of others
- Experience of high quality research with clear transferable skills and some experience or awareness of the research environment
- Presentations at conferences and/or highquality publications
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, maintaining good clinical practice in a research environment and upholding the principles of good data management and governance.
- Experience of qualitative research in dementia
- Experience and knowledge around dementia care
- Experience and knowledge in risk prediction of diseases
- Ability to prioritise tasks and work to key milestones
- A willingness to travel for interviews
- Ability to work independently and also as part of a wider research team
- Ability to communicate well particularly around more sensitive matters with participants
- Good organisation and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in generic IT skills including using online platforms to conduct interviews
