The role involves providing focused support to families, carers, and significant others.We are looking for someone enthusiastic about people; and able to offer advice, information, and ongoing support which promotes health and wellbeing, develops resilience and self-confidence, and helps people to thrive.
The Family and Carers Support Worker will be based at all sites/offices at Al-Hurraya in Nottingham and Derby, but will also provide outreach across local communities, providing groupwork and 1-1 support to family members, carers and significant others affected by gambling, alcohol and/or substance use of someone close to them.
Position in Organisation
- Reports to Operations Manager
- Point of contact for/with service users
- Point of contact for/with community resources/providers
Scope of Job
You will support structured psychosocial interventions and deliver this with the health promotions worker to ensure that users of the service are equipped to best support their loved ones in their recovery from any addiction and return to everyday life.
Each intervention provides the tools needed for families, carers, and significant others to reduce isolation, increase confidence, set appropriate boundaries, become more knowledgeable about the cycle of addiction, and work through any emotional feelings of guilt, shame, and anger.
Education & Experience
- Experience of delivering 11 support and group therapeutic interventions with families and carers.
- Knowledge of substance use and gambling issues, prevention strategies, and harm reduction principles.
- Excellent communication and people skills, including confidence in public speaking.
- Excellent organisational and diary management skills.
- Understanding of and ability to implement interventions based on the whole family and carers approach, including brief interventions MI, PSIs, CBT and ITEP.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse community groups and stakeholders.
- Understanding of cultural competence and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Successfully completed Al-Hurraya Level 2 Mentoring Training (or be working towards)
Experience of working with families, carers, and significant others
Collaborating with models of service delivery and issues relating to recovery planning
