RMS are currently recruiting for a great opportunity for a
Primary Operations Supervisor to join a well-established and growing Sheet Metal Fabrication Company.
Role and Responsibilities:
- To oversee the cost effective and efficient management of the section.
- Managing all aspects of production ensuring daily targets are met.
- Maintain the highest possible standards of Quality, Health and Safety.
- Ensure daily section schedules are adhered to and completed.
- To set and maintain a structured approach to the daily running of the laser cutting and punching section.
- To set and maintain the highest standard of health and safety awareness for all those working in the area.
- Solely responsible for the quality of all parts manufactured in the section, ensuring complex jobs have clear standard operating procedures completed before next production run.
- Develop and facilitate a continuous improvement culture.
- Ensure accurate data collection and recording of performance, in line with production targets.
- Ensure regular checks on operator hourly performance; maintain high profile in work area focussing on complex jobs.
- Will plan work to fully utilise the skills of their team using skill matrix as a guide, and to identify skills gaps.
- Will ensure all team members are meaningfully engaged in tasks and working efficiently.
- Will ensure all team members have the tools, equipment and parts they require to do each job before it is started.
- Will monitor reasons for downtime and liaise with other departments to reduce / eliminate.
- Will challenge underperforming operators and provide necessary support or take actions (with the support of the Line Manager / HR) against those operators who fail to improve.
- Will ensure all parts and racks are clearly identified and organised in a clear and tidy manner.
- Will manage within their respective teams to ensure ample coverage for workload.
- Will ensure there are ample skills in each section to provide coverage for all jobs.
- Will inform the line manager / HR manager of any personnel issues immediately.
- Will ensure all operators log SFDC data accurately and in a timely manner.
- Will ensure operators complete job sheets correctly.
- Will ensure all operators are aware of, and work to, the quality plan.
- To organise and control the workflow both into, and out of, the section.
- Any other duties are required by the business.
- A solid background in supervisor or management position, ideally within an engineering/manufacturing business.
- Knowledge of laser cutting and or punching machines is desired but not essential.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Be confident, in prioritising your own workload and that of the team.
- Have a flexible, pragmatic approach to your daily duties coupled with enthusiasm, drive and motivation to keep a tight control of a busy section producing laser cut and punched blanks for a variety of different customers.
Hours of work:
Monday to Thursday 8AM to 5PM and Friday 8AM until 12:30PM. Must be flexible around working hours and should be willing to work short notice overtime as and when required.

£28,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
