An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Health Care Assistant to join the Medical Education team.

This role is focused on the recruitment and support of all the medical education volunteer patients, whom contribute to the teaching and examination of medical students and Doctors in training.

The post holder also plays a vital role in the coordination, set up and maintenance of clinical skills equipment utilised in medical education teaching.


This post is 15 hours per week, working Monday and Tuesday although some flexibility is required during busy periods, such as examinations.


In addition to supporting our volunteer patients, the post holder will be responsible for the set up and maintenance of clinical skills equipment and mannequins.

This post is based at Wansbeck General Hospital, however regular travel to other trust sites is required. The ability to travel to other trust sites is essential to this post.


We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England.

We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres.

We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate.

We have one of the most extensive patient experience programmes of any trust in England.

  • To select and contact appropriate volunteers by telephone and in person regarding educational activities.
  • To supervise and provide basic care to volunteers attending for educational activities.
  • To contribute to the maintenance and development of the medical education volunteer database.
  • To assist in the ordering, storage and accessibility of teaching resources, supplies and equipment.
  • To support administrative and teaching staff
